Proof 65? A nice coin, I do not see many barbers that nice, the series seems to me to be less popular than walkers or frankies.
I'm getting pretty good at grading now, I guessed 65 before I saw illini420's guess. But this definetely looks like a 65. Nice Coin!!!
I'm going to be bold and suggest 66 here....But I say that given the view of the coin I have. Maybe in hand I would think differently. That is an incredible piece with excellent surface quality, no apparent marks, nice strike, and wonderful color.
That is a very beautiful Barber compared to what I currently have in my collection! I'd say it's a good solid 65. but even as good as those picture are, I'll need to see that one in person. My home address is...
Not that bold of a suggestion. I was on the fence on whether to guess 65 or 66. Just saw a couple of tiny things that made me think 65 and given that the pics are really large enough to judge that close of a difference, I just played it conservatively and went with 65. It has the same look/luster as my 1909-O Half in my registry set which is also very very close to a 66. Of course, maybe we're all being fooled by the image and it's really a very very very nice AU58??? or that the luster isn't nearly as good in hand as it looks in the picture and it's an MS62??? Not possible to grade on pics alone. Not for me at least.
Illini, The only thing I worry about with the piece is, maybe, that dark spot about 7:30 from "Liberty" may cause an issue.... AU 58? Maybe--I've seen some pretty coins in AU 58 slabs, with surface quality and luster that would have me thinking something low-mid MS. I'm with you, though -- seeing a coin in hand beats grading by photos every time.
I grade it freaking amazing. 66 (I'd like to see larger photos to be sure there's nothing hiding though) Maybe PL. Wow.
Ok, now that I've taken another look at the 1900 and have compared it to a few of my MS Barber Halves, I think it's definitely an MS coin. I'd be shocked otherwise. However, while the pic is excellent, I really don't think the coin has the luster the pic makes me think is there. In looking at the right obverse field what I originally thought was just toning, now looks more and more like some sort of haze or muted luster. Same on the reverse too... the coin just doesn't seem to cartwheel the same way that my MS65 and MS66 Barber Halves seem to, but it is very close. The coin actually is more comparable to my better MS62 and MS63 examples. Give the small spots at the beginning and end of LIBERTY on the obverse I wouldn't be surprised if they said MS62 for this coin, but they probably gave it a point or two higher for overall eye appeal. Tough tough tough coin to grade from that photo. But I guess I've made 3 or 4 guesses now so maybe one of them is correct
Awesome Barber! I would guess a 65, but wouldn't be surprised at all with a 66. Imo they look like Teletrade pics, but that's just a guess.
The look of the pictures remind me of an ebay seller named "Shawne" or something like that. His coins always look amazing.
