Ok, trying to take pictures with a cheap digital camera and one light source. Work in progress! Two notes I like and recently picked up, both were under 2 bucks each! # 1 & 2 Mexico, Chihuahua Province, 1913, 10 peso, front & back, has graffiti on it, but I very much like it, puts more history behind the note. # 3 & 4 Poland, 1949, 20 Zl, hard to capture the gorgeous blue & turquoise color hues of this note!
The pics looks very sharp, but when uploading them here, the website resizes them tiny!! It's best to upload your pictures to a free hosting website such as www.photobucket.com and then insert the IMG code into your post, then you can control the size of the pictures you post. That 10 peso note looks pretty cool though.
i love the old Mexican notes. i have one from the same series only its a 5 Peso. photobucket is you best bet for posting the pics as mentioned. also if you have a scanner you can much better quality images. its not like coins that you have to get at the right angle and right lighting. here is the note i have in the same series as yours :thumb: oh and also welcome to cointalk. i saw your post in the coin section
You're welcome. Much much better pics Don't collect paper money and I have no clue as to what they are worth, but that 10 peso is pretty cool for under $2!!! Might have to take a look at some of those pieces of paper at the next coin show I attend :smile
I have no idea what they are worth either, as I don't have a catalog or anything for notes, I just love the richness of the design and the history behind them! Yah Mexican notes are fun and many are affordable vs. US notes of same time period! No scanner, but I'll work out two gooseneck lamps situation so I can take better shots with my digital cam. Love your note, looks like it's in much better shape then mine, almost UNC, congrats! What did you pay for it? And thanks for the welcome, love the boards so far, with a few exceptions.
You will probably find this page interesting for the El Banco del Estado de Chihuahua notes. http://www.jdwjme.com/villa/index_files/Page472.htm Jim
Ok here is something else for what it is worth. About 20 years ago I went to a yard sale where the below bill was. The seller was about 70 years old and had worked at RKO movie studio and another I forget. He said that they were doing old Westerns and needed some authentic looking Mexican bills for the robberies, etc. He claims they had the American Banknote make them up these from the old plates. They were suppose to destroy them later, but he and the crew kept a few for souvenirs. Notice that they took the 10 peso and removed the "0" very nicely on front and back and crossed out the line under the vignette ( photo) that said 10 pesos. The story made sense, but I am just repeating what he said Jim
Pictures are looking good Sasha! I know you can get scanners for real cheap some times, a scanner would make scanning currency so much easier then taking pictures of it! My brother gave me a nice professional quality one for my birthday a few years back, it's done evey note in my collection, as well as thousands upon thousands of other things (over 10,000!) so I've put it through it's paces. I wonder, was the Mexican bill the start of a Short Snorter? I can't quite make out the wording above the date, but I also can't read Spanish, either!
Those early Mexican notes are lovely, in fact I have been venturing into them quite a bit lately myself.
Welcome to the forum MissSasha I like the notes, and think you have got a good system down for taking images of your notes. As mentioned, scanning the notes would give a better image, if you have acces to a scanner. Using a camera is better for coins, but not so much for currency.
Very nice Miss "S"... I am happy to see you here! What college are you attending? Whats your majpr? How long do you have remaining? Make my day and tell me you are in "Chemical Engineering" Welcome to Paper Money!! RickieB
Notes from the Mexican Revolution era were used as models for many different types of movie money. Whether ABN printed them from old plates may be questionable. This note looks to be one color lithographed on each side.
Nice notes and pics. The writing on the 10 peso would earn it a special place in my collection. :thumb:
i think i picked it up on ebay for like $10 or so. i have many other mexican notes from that era just from diffrent places in mexico. here are my 2 favorite. here are a few from the 60's and 70's
Coins Dang. & I thought the MissS liked coins first. Great start on photos tho!:smile http://www.irfanview.com/ the link to my fav free swiss army knife~like image software.
