    Greetings all,

I recently picked up a 2008 W $5 Gold Eagle and decided to look at it under my dino lite to check out the details. While examining I noticed what appears to be strike doubling on many areas of the coin and was wondering if this is common on these coins? What do you think it does to the value of the coin?
    Thanks!

Congrats on the new acquisition. Machine doubling (aka strike doubling) is very common on all US coinage. It will add no additional premium.

Thanks guys... yeah I realize it is just strike/machine doubling and I really posed the question more to see if it would hurt the value, not to see if it added value...

I bought the coins as collectors pieces and paid a premium but think I still got a good deal. I bought this $5 2008 W and a $10 2008 W for $600 which is a lot but it is the best deal I could find and feel that with such a low production it was worth it. Wish I could have gotten them directly from the mint! :(
