Here's my oldest proof coin that I have right now: This one used to be my oldest, but I traded this one awhile ago: And just for fun, here's a proof of an old design, but it's a fairly new coin
Thanks ,good tip 900fine,I'm going to try it out, getting tired of shooting & deleting ! connor1:desk:
illini420, all of your proofs are eye popping beauties,it must have been a great trade to let that 1891 Quarter Dollar go !
These kinds of post are why I love this site. Illini I thought you had the 1909 Proof Set oh I guess you were saying the 1891 was your oldest. man those are some sweet coins I think a 65 kennedy SMS might be the closest thing I have right now. I sold out back in the '80's, and have started over just going slow for now. Thanks for sharing all those beauties. Kent
Remember guys, photos don't tell the whole story, especially on proof coins!!!! What do you think of the 1891 proof now that I show it from a different angle???? I still thought it was a cool coin, but not really what I thought to be a keeper. Bought it when I was new before I knew to look for hairlines I think the new owner of the coin got it graded PF 61 though.
What a nice thread. I believe I've only ever purchased one coin that was a pre-1900 proof. It was an Indian head cent that was is a non-top-3-TPG holder. I only paid $50, so I don't feel bad. I won't tell you what insane multiple of my purchase price I sold it for. <shift gears> I've always felt that these early proofs were underappreciated, and therefore undervalued. My gain, their loss, I suppose. Physics-fan: That isn't the 1961 DDR, is it? Remind me to tell you a funny story about that variety sometime. Paul, Illini: It should not be legal for either of you to own those coins. Shame on you. Admit responsibility, turn yourselves in, and mail those badboys to me IMMEDIATELY! ldhair: I hope plenty of people on this board take advantage of the free tuition you have provided them on coin photography. Bravo!
Great Thread folks. Thank you all for the eye candy....now if I can only get the drool off my laptop......
1833 1/2c - Proof or PL ? I've posted this one before. Is it proof or merely prooflike ? You be the judge. I will say it pays to consult Breen's die state discussion on this one. I will also say I compared it to an 1833 1/2c slabbed NGC PR65 - side by side. IMO, this coin has an earlier die state and sharper strike in the stars. The obverse die state subtleties don't show in this photo... the die cracks are very, very fine. The reverse clash marks, OTOH, are quite obvious. perhaps even instructive !
Thanks for showing those beauties, I guess they are yours? I replied in a quote because they should be seen again.
