After waiting 10 days to get a coin, I finally received it in the mail today.

Advertised as an EF buffalo nickel. Loose. Nice pictures. Was a buy it now. A little high, but much nicer than everything else that was available. So I said, what the heck. Sometimes you have to pay a little extra to get something a little higher quality. The seller had over 5k feedback. 100% positive. So most would assume this is a great seller.

It arrives today. Looks good at first. Then under closer inspection I soon realize it isn't even what was in the picture. Not even close. Which I guess would be fine if it was equivalent or better. I could have lived with it I suppose.

But there's a gash on the hair above the braid about 5mm long, about 1mm wide, that's been filled! And the date looks really small. It all looks legit but who really knows??

I paid AU price for an EF example. There's no way somebody could have missed the problem. If they did, than there's no way I'd buy from them again because if this will pass, there's no way this seller would ever idenitify a decent fake. They'd only pass it on and claim ignorance.

    That's ebay for you. :computer:

I would write the seller first. With that kind of feedback, there is a good chance he got something mixed up. Even the best of us do that at least occasionally.

I have spent a lot of wasted time standing in the P.O., and spent a lot of cash returning problem coins purchased from eBay. Consider your frustration shared!

The seller responded. Said they would reimburse the return costs and offered me 10% off anything they have in stock.

Problem is, I was going through their inventory and found a 1939-D MS66FB Mercury dime in an old green holder, buy it now for $87. I just happened to buy a 1939-D MS66FB in an old green holder off ebay back in July for $47!

I think I will take the refund. At least they're good about it.

Well - I am glad the seller made it right. It does make me wonder if they tried to get away with something. A lot of people don't complain - or maybe would not even caught the problem. Oh well - at least the seller made it right for you.

Be glad you got out of it ok.....I will admit, with so many things goin on, I sometimes panic when I sell a web coin or an Ebay store item.

My organizational skills are lacking, there have been several times I sold the same coin twice, had the wrong pic, etc etc.

Sellers @ 100% are there for a reason, they cater to the customer....dont bomb this seller completely, they have made a reasonable offer to make it right.

    Totally agree.

No one is perfect; we all make mistakes. The key is how people handle the inevitable mess-up. Sounds like this seller is the big :thumb:.

He's not alone. There are plenty of good people out there.

No. I won't hammer him. As long as I get a refund promptly I just probably won't leave feedback at all. Although he said this was the only EF they had in stock. So they were obviously knowingly not selling the coin that was pictured. Which probably deserves a neutral feedback in my book. There was no mention otherwise in the auction.
