Well, its been over two years since the discovery of the 1982 DDR. I only know of one other example. Has anyone heard of any others? Richard

It is in the top five of all time after 1972 probably as a doubled die the top one. Only one other than the 83,84 that even come close is the 1995-D DDO-003. I actually like your coin much better than all those though if I had to choose. As to the reasons none others have surfaced I have thought about this a lot. 1. I think since it's been so long ago and is (the normal coin) generally found in the 7 variety sets that were put together people forget to look, plus the conditon of those sets sitting there in that cardboard for the last couple of decades is at the very least not very inviting. 2. Same with rolls, they often come so junky it's hard to get excited about them - I have bought at least a dozen BU roll sets of the 82's and bet I only ended up with 1 set worth putting my name on it. 3. I think a whole lot of these sets both 7 coins and roll sets are remaining in peoples garage and basement because the market has alway been saturated with them. I mean you see adds for them today for the 7 coin set for $5 - was that not the price 15 years ago? 4. It may very well turn out to be a super rairity if they caught the die early and some die variety guys, or gals think it's not worth the effort that they would rather spend it elsewhere. I mean people do get stuff like that in there head and will not bother searching a 1958-P roll but I sure will. Even I have my prejudist - I will not search 1977, 78, and 79's so who knows. 5. What I really think - I think your coin is very rare, that not many will be found but somewhere there is a roll, or box of rolls with your coin in there. I think when that someone finds these rolls they will find a couple hundred maybe more and as it should be they will not tell anyone and send them into the market very, very slowly. Those kind of numbers would actually help your coin. Anything around of under a couple thousand is still a super rare coin. You want the chance of finding one or people will forget and put their attention elsewhere. Plus a few maybe a dozen will turn up in those 7 coin sets over time but will be horrible quality. 6. One more thing (petty IMO) but used to hold true is it's a doubled die reverse. Now I know they are all the rage in 2009 but back when on the Lincoln anyway a obverse DDO was more sought after (or at least better known) than a DDR. 7. One more thing and I will shut up - what I know since you found that one not in the above is: None of my dealers even know of it, would not know it if it hit them on the head, they don't search for it and do not talk about it. It's as if it's giagantic find, a tremendous DDR, that splashed in the pan and now rides in the trunk and there is no good reason for it other than what I have mentioned above - it's got me kind of scratching my head also.
Ideally I would love to see a hundred or so found over time so it could potentially be included in the PCGS Lincoln Cent Registry Set. The people bucking for points would then pay big bucks for one! As for how early the dies werediscovered by the mint, Charles Daughtry estimated by the die state of my coin that at least 15,000 were minted before mine. But then again Zincolns Rot. Richard
