Original surfaces is a big plus for these coins. This piece has never been dipped, and maybe they will give it a point for that fact.
I agree. As far as experienced collectors go there's really nothing on this coin to not fall in love with.
Short answer, their price guides in their plastic. You want their prices, you buy their plastic. Think about it. "'Buy the coin, not the plastic." How many times do we hear that mantra? And on a coin like this one that may indeed undergrade compared to what it ends up selling for, sure, the mantra is reinforced. But then take one that's overgraded for the market and apply the mantra. You're never going to get that coin if there's any kind of bidding pool for it if, going by the mantra, you underbid their price guide. Why? Because there will always be one fool who will trust the TPG and bid it at their price guide, and that's the one who's going to get the coin, every time, or nearly every time. There's what the TPGs are good for.
I'm in at 64. I own a 1926, not graded and not as nice. I also love this series. I was born in Roseburg, OR.
I was going conservative at MS 64 before the reveal but 65 is fair as well. Congrats on picking up one of the better classic commem designs out there (at least in my opinion ).
