No chick is that good looking that I am going to drop everything I own to buy her. A woman of that stature needs to bring something to the table. I have yet to see what that will be.

James Knox Polk has always been my favorite President...he accomplished quite a bit in office. I didn't realize his wife took such an active roll in the day-to-day operations of the Office of the President (she was "Secretary to the President"...a pretty important position back then). Perhaps there are other Polk lovers out there, too. :thumb:

The reverse isn't final yet, but I loved the image I saw in the newest issue of Coin World, showing Lady Liberty! :thumb:

Disappointed it's not the Flying Eagle or Indian Head from the cents of that time... but it looks a LOT better than I thought it would.

I like the obverse but the mint has gone nuts on the reverse. This is the fifth coin with someone reading or writing in a book in the last two to three years. Abigail, Van Buren, Lincoln, Anna, and this one. Sarah Polk is also doing it on a letter so that is six.

I don't have access to the Coin World article... any other pics of the proposed 2010 Spouse designs???

Wasn't Buchanan the "gay" President? ...(not that there's anything wrong with that). I would think Alabama Senator William Rufus King (aka "Miss Nancy"...aka "Buchanan's lover") would be on the Obverse.

that is why the mint have to lower its price chart by one or two brakets. so that the sales can improve.

IMO the mint stands to make more money not selling these. They bought the gold at a lower price and they can use this gold for future products at a higher price.

Wow with these prices going higher on the spouse coins even fewer can collect them all even at mint prices. I bet that with each 5% increase in price now they lose more than 5% is sales.

What effect do you think the lower sales will evenutally have on their numismatic values?

    My view...

Mintage + Collector Base = Numismatic Value

The current low mintages are great...as long as the FS collector base eventually grows. I'm betting it does and find the current high prices (low sales) exciting...as long (as you point out) we can afford to keep buying them.

It could happen years down the road. I was just reading an article about the modern commemorative coinage and how volatile their prices are. You never know if a coin will go up in value or down in value. The author gave three price examples. First was the 2000 Library of Congress Bi-metal coin. He said in the article that although the coin came out in 2000, up until 2004 you could still find this coin at around $1200, now it is tough to find it below $2400. What has been the reason for the jump? Then he used another example which was the 1997 Jackie Robinson UNC coin which also could be had for around $2000 in 2004, now you cant find it for less than $4000. What was the reason for that jump? Who knows, but I think that was his point was that an interest in a particular coin can go up or down on any given day for no apparent reason. To this day I can still kick myself for not getting that 2000 Library of Congress Proof Bi-metal coin. In 2005, I had a chance to acquire one for $650 but at that time I was getting ready to buy some other coins which I felt were more important...now you can't even find the proof for less than $1500. Who knew?

So who knows what the FS coins will do in the future. All I know is that I want to be on board when something does decide to happen. Here is the last example he used and could be applied to the FS series. In 1995/96 when the Olympic coins came out, everybody rushed to buy the Proof coins.....as usual, but it was the UNC coins that nobody bought up. 10 years later the prices of these coins have jumped and nearly 15 years later it is quite expensive to put together a complete UNC set without dropping some serious cash. My point from here is that if you can only buy one coin from this series, you might as well make it the UNC, because history has shown that these will be the more valuable out of the two coins. Good luck.
