OK, I have a few more coins I need someone more knowledge to look at for me. These coins came from a mixture given to me by my grandmother before she passed away. Many of those coins she had were late 19th century and I don't have any 19th century world coin books (I only have like 15 or 20 world coins total from that era anyway). Some of these coins I know more about than others...but generally what I want to know about each is: Country of Origin, Denomination, Year, Mintage, and Composition. For some of these coins, these things are obvious, but for others I have no idea. Here is what I know (or what I think I know) about them. Top Row Left: 1872, France, 10 Centimes (mintage and composition?) Middle: 1890, Great Britain, 1 Penny (mintage and composition?) Right: China?, Coin Says "Ho-Nan, Ten Cash" (don't know anything) - better pic below Middle Row Left: 1881-H, Mexico, 1 Centavo (mintage and composition?) Middle: 1884, Portugal (denomination, mintage and composition?) Right: Unknown, holed (love token carved reverse?) Bottom Row Left: 1881, Looks German???, "1" (country, denomination, mintage and composition?) - better pic below Middle: Unknown Right: 1898, 10 Ore (country, mintage and composition?)

penny hope this help's the only coin i can help you with is the penny. mintage sory but composition is bronze 9.4 gram's mìchael gouby has a book on this called the british bronze penny 1860-1970 The british did mint a lot of penny's for most year's in the millon's Bar for 1933 My wish list Dave
And British coins don't have mintmarks - they just have one big mint in London - the Royal Mint. This is true at least for modern coins, I don't know about Medieval.
So all those "H"-marked coins that I thought were from the Heaton Mint, and the "KN"s that I thought were from the Kings Norton Mint are fakes?
Hello, The top left 10 centimes 1872 is from the mint of Paris (A), mintage : 4.399.016, 30 mm diameter, 10 gr, bronze I have the same, just below Q Clik picture to enlarge
The love token was once a Argentina 20 centavos, struck in 0.900 silver. Mintage for the British bronze penny 1890 is 15,331,000 Mexico 1 centavo: H (or Ho) means Hermosillo Mint, mintage for 1881 Ho is 459,000 (copper) Portugal 20 reis bronze mintage for 1884: 17,200,000 Austria 1 kreuzer 1881 in copper: mintage 1881 : 37,900,000 Norway 10 ore, indeed 0.400 silver , 1.5 gram, mintage for 1898: 2,000,000
Thank you for all the wonderful information. It is exactly what I need. Do you know what years this particular silver 20 centavos design was struck? I assume the date was on the reverse of this coin (and is long gone now) but I would like to be able to list on the 2x2 what range of years it could have been made.
OK, I have just about all those coins identified. All left are two of them. I believe these are both from China. So, if anyone could date them, tell me the mintage, denomination, and composition I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Top: Republic of China, Honan Province, copper 10 cash, undated but issued either 1913, 1914 or 1920. It may be Y#392, 392.1, 392.2, or 392.3. (Krause shows two different versions of 392.1) I am not familiar enough with the varieties to attribute it based on the lousy pictures in Krause. Fine catalog values range from 75¢ to $17.50. Bottom: Republic of China Year 3 (1914) "Fat Man Dollar", 24.6g .89 silver 1 yuan, with bust of Yuan Shi Kai, the Manchu traitor who led his troops to support the revolution and then served as President of the Republic. He also tried to name himself Emperor, but failed miserably. There are also several varieties (Y#329-329.4), cataloged at $10-15 in VG. (Bullion value is ~$11.93.)
Wow, great information. Thank you to all who have helped me. I have everything that I need now except for one small thing. That Argentina 20 centavos love token. Could someone tell me what range of years that coin was produced. I know the year was on the reverse and as a result is gone...but I would like to know what dates that coin could have been produced so I can put the range on my 2x2. Something like: 18XX-19XX or whenever it was made. I think you were a touch off of but it gave me enough information to find my coin. Mine is much smaller than 24.6g, it is roughly the size of a dime. But, I believe it is a 10 cents (1 chaio) piece of the same design.
