Did anyone buy the Presidential Mint Sets? NOT the Proof Sets, but the Mint Sets?

Did anyone here on the forum buy one of these sets? I am wondering if the coins are satin finish or circulation strikes.

    Can someone tell me, please?

stain finish??? I assume you mean satin, LOL.

I was referring to the presidential Mint Sets with ONLY the presidential dollars in them. Is the item to which you're referring?

    LOL!!!
    Yes I meant SATIN!
And, the only way to get the satin finish coins, is out of mint sets, government issue mint sets, are all satin finish, to the best of my knowledge, I thought every mint set was satin.
(Can't say I'm 100% sure about presidential mint set, I guess wait and see what the others say)

    Jon,

I am talking about the Presidential Mint Sets, not the proof sets. much like the Susan B Anthony Mint Sets of the 79-81 vintage. These coins are sold in a Mint sealed set alone, just like the Pres Proof sets

That is EXACTLY the set to which I am referring.

FWIW, I don't think that the regular Mint Sets say that they have a Satin finish either.

I once asked a guy who was selling these on eBay and he said satin finish, but I don't really know him, and therefore don't know how reliable what he said is.

I get 2 US Mint sets by subscription and they are satin finished. They come in P & D per set. This year we will get the 6. not 5, territory quarters, the 4 presidents and the Sac/Native American golden dollars.

So, we get 5 dollars, 1 Kennedy half, 6 quarters, one dime, one nickel, and 4 Lincoln cents all in both P & D mint marks. That is 36 coins per Mint set of BU coins.

I'll open one set for my albums and keep the second intact.

I hope all this info is correct. Someone will confirm this soon enough here.

unfortunately, the Mint Set is also NOT the set to which I am, referring. I am speaking of the Presidential Mint Set. I can't find it on the Mint website anymore.

I do realize that the Mint sets (with every coin) are satin finished. I also assume that the Presidential Mint Set is satin finished because they haven't started minting the last design of this year (I think it's Polk) yet and it makes more sense to me that the coins for these sets all be minted at the same time.

I found it!!! Here's the link:

    http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...10001&storeId=10001&productId=14538&langId=-1

THIS is the set I am talking about. They are no longer available and I was thinking about buying one, but only if they are circulation strikes.

I figured that in this forum there's got to be at least 1 person who bought one.

on a side note: I don't normally pay attention to how many posts I have made, but this post is a favorite year of mine for key dates: 1921! weeeee!

Mike, I was going through a few of these sets last night and I remembered this thread with your question. I was always under the impression that these sets were satin finish but now I'm not so sure. I think they're just regular business strikes.

No where in the product description is the word 'satin' used. Also, this year these sets were issued before the regular mint set (Oct. 1). I think they just grabbed these coins right out of the hopper as my set seems rather unremarkable. After all, why start up a special way of production for only one issue? This is only a theory of mine and I must say that I'm not entirely sure I'm correct....

The 2009 sets are not sold out: http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ctId=14781&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=34238

and the coins within these sets are all Satin Finish which is the source for eBay auctions such as this: http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-P-D-James-K-Polk-1s-PCGS-MS68-Satin-Finish-Pos-B_W0QQitemZ180409612802QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item2a01403a02&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

BTW, of the 10 sets I ordered, all contained some really, really, crappy coins:

I know this has nothing to do with the OP, but I love your Avatar I believe that is what you call it. The Flying Eagle is one sharp coin do you own that one? If so what is it graded if it is? I just think those are one of the best coins ever I have a '57 almost as nice as that one but I am not sure what it would grade I am going to post pics someday. Sorry for interupting the Post, but I love that penny.

    2010 mint releases?

When does the Mint post the release dates for the coins in the upcoming year? When do they say what exactly they will be making for 2010 or even the rest of 2009?
    Thanks Kent

19Lyds is right, the coins in this set are Satin, AND they are of lousy quality. I rec'd a set as a gift and would return it if I could.
