DJ... There is an underlying reason I started this Poll... It expires in 15 days...then I will explain what it is all about. Talk soon... RickieB
i think RickieB has gotten me to follow a very wise path on the higher grade notes. i still will pick up a lower grade here or there just depending on the note. if it is something i know i probably could never afford in GEM or CH CU i will snag it slightly lower grades.
I always buy the highest grades I can afford, but unfortunately in these times, my budget prevents me from buying what I really would like. I am still quite happy with the notes I buy, and hopefully someday I will be able to upgrade.
havent started buying any, collection consists of inherited & give back in change, which is a real find to me
Military and war related notes, depression scrip, German East Africa, Wisconsin obsoletes, famous people and places.
I collect older US bills and any foreign. I usually get my bills from the register at work, so not the best grades. I do get the occasional gem. Friends can be helpful too.
I like a little of everything. While this year I am taking a little bit of a break, I would like to focus on mid to higher grade large size notes in the coming years.
Well I added my vote to the talley and it should be no surprise. I also made this a public poll so everyone could see who does what. So my question to you is this; When you look at the results of the poll thus far, what do you see? RickieB
Sometimes as in the case of the early Canadian Charters, you are very lucky to turn up something even in low grade. This is also true of many mid to late 19th century notes, especially when you go beyond the $20.
i see that the results show that most paper money collectors cant afford to go after the higher grade notes thus increasing the premiums on lower end notes because of the greater audience trying to buy them.
I just voted and went with the world notes in all grades. The Us notes in mid grade and if I see a obsolete or fractional that I like I'll buy it. The US notes that I would purchase uncirculated are the notes from the educational series. For the last few months I been thinking of starting a banknote collection of Argentina and if I do start an Argentina banknote collection I would try to assemble a mid to high level collection. Lou
I have a smattering of all of the U.S. categories. My MPC collection has the most high grade notes of all the series of notes I collect. I'm in the same boat as some of the others whom have posted. I see that most, if not all, go for the best they can afford. In these economic times I find that I'm only able to get low to mid-grade, as this is what I'm able to afford right now. Fortunately I have a couple of local store clerks that save stars and small heads for me so I'm able to still get stuff at face. Saving up to get higher quality notes is out of the question at this point. Business, (flooring), is just to slow.........................................................John A little side note. I just noticed that the percentage of low to mid-grade buying,(64.7%), is very close to the percentage of people th at have moved into the category of living paycheck to paycheck. Up from (42%) 2 years ago. I see this stuff on the news and realize why I'm stressed. lol
For now I fall into the "US Large and Small Size Type Mid to Low Grade Level" category because of my limited experience and finical backing. But I hope to eventually graduate into a high grade collector eventually.
My primary collecting interests in Currency are US notes. While I'd like to do a complete type set, I know realisticly that most all large size are well out of my price range. I've recently decided that a complete set of small size FRNs is very doable, up to and including the $20, although some will probably always be out of reach, like the early Star notes. I will continue to add notes that I like...but more importantly, can afford...while working on my FRN set. I also really like obsoletes and in the coming years I will be adding a large selection of them to my collection, I hope! I live on a very limited income so what I can't buy far outweighs what I can. I will also occasionally add world notes to my collection, and there are a few I am chasing after, but for some reason, I can't get into them as much as I can with world coinage, and I don't know why...I think it's partially because I have not been able to see them in person often. The ones I have, I certainly like, but my collection will always be predominantly US issues, and will mostly be small size FRNs. I also really like the red seal United States Notes and for a type set of them, I have 3 of 8. I think it won't be too hard to get a $2 Star and a $5 non star, but both $100s and the $1 star will be troublesome. (The most I've ever spent for a note is $25)
Hmmm....I'm not even on there. I'd be 95% US Small Size/5% US Large Size. All grades from Good through ChCU Also seems to come in phases. Been really busy with work and other things lately and haven't had more than a few minutes here and there for the currency collecting hobby lately.
