So the Title says it all....who are you? Multiple Choice is allowed in this Poll. Since we have so many new Paper Money Collectors; Tell us why you like to collect, your goals, your milestones and you Top Wanted Note! (be reasonable on the Top Wanted Note) everyone wants a $5 Educational in Gem 68
I checked: -World notes all grades: Mainly higher grade foreign other then Canada I usually go for any grade. Also starting a turtles on notes collection in higher grade. -US large and small mid to low: I have lots of small size and probably 5 or 6 large size, large in low grade for the most part, small usually mid-high. -Obsoletes and Fractionals: I only have one of each but would like to get into them a lot more (too many stuff to collect for my budget lol) My goals are to complete turtles on notes within the next year or two, and to complete the Canada series 1937 notes (1 per denomination excluding the $1000 for now) within the next year or two aswell. I also want to get some more fractionals and obsoletes soon. My top wanted note is tough but I would really love to compile the educational series in any grade lol. I also really love the Indian cheif $5 Nice poll RickieB.
I don't collect currency, but I sure did enjoy the last two weeks. I posted a couple of weeks ago about some old currency that fell into my lap. Included was a Waltonville, IL National note. It turned out being only the third one known. I sold it for a tidy sum yesterday. I'll have to say that I was fascinated with what I learned about Nationals over these last two weeks. Frankly, I'm too cheap to fork over the amounts needed to assemble a nice currency collection. Have fun guys, I'll sit back and watch.
i selected US Large and Small Size Type Collector High End well as most of you know i mainly focus on chicago notes but have quite an extensive collection from other districts, silver certificates, red seal LT notes along with 100's of world notes. i would like to one day finish the chicago collection. a feat that might be a large hill to climb. i have probably 65-70% of the notes. but those last one are real buggers:headbang: i think most of my major purchases have been made for the year. but i am not the only one here that has said that and kept on going :rolling:
I disagree with the investment part, I buy and collect artwork, price is no object nor do I care what something is worth to someone else.
Now Urban... you aren't pointing fingers now are you?? :smile Any one we know?? LOL... I could not help my self...I gave in due to the extreme weakness of the situation. :thumb: RickieB
Beleive it or not, it is not my favorite by any means... It is nice, but not anywhere near my Top Choice. RickieB
I have yet to define my goals on this area of my collection. I wanted to get mini type sets of 5, 10 and 20 notes (four completely different looks of the notes), which I have completed. I certainly don't want to stop there. I would like to get more versions of the $1 note. I have world notes from WWII and older with a few modern ones. I also have a few fractionals, and current star notes. I guess I'm all over the board for now....LOL. I really should decide, but there is so much to collect. I'll define it later. Right now I want a Funnyback and a 1923 large size one dollar note. The note I covet is the 1899 Chief Onepapa $5 note....Why? because it is spectacularly artistic and I just love it!
I tink I may be too new at this to have a favorite type or series, but I really enjoy consecutive serial #'s. Small size silver certs and red seals are intruiging to me and the reasonable price along with availability make them easier to start with I believe. But the artwork on the large size notes is something I will definitely be getting into in the future.
Oh and I forgot to add, my top wanted note, an 1891 $5 silver cert, grade and signature matters not. It's the artwork that I love.
I collect world notes in all grades and US large and small notes in all grades. Most of my notes tend to end up being mid level grades due to prices, but grade is not all that important to me My top notes are the bison and chief notes for sure... although my tombstone $10 is up there in presiousness ... but the artwork on the bison and chief notes are by far the best i own!!! I would love to own the rest of the education series as well. I own the $1, but will soemday have the rest - and of course grade doesnt matter to me, so the lower grade will have to do because of prices. I would also love to get more of the treasury notes fromt he 1800's. They had some intricate designs on the reverses!!!! Unfortunately, large size notes tend to be mostly out of my range, even in the lower grades lol
Wasn't sure on how I fit in the survey. All notes AU and up if at all possible. (is this high end or mid?) -Us (large n small) and world $2's. -Circulation stars, fancy serial numbers and errors. -Basic type set of other US notes. -Would like to do a complete set of fractionals, but will probably stop at 1 of each of the 10c. -Anything else that looks good or is funny (like the Dalawang Piso) -$2 SC 1896 is one of my favorite designs. FR 49 & 54 most likely will not happen.
While I've been primarily a world banknote collector, I've been getting into US Banknotes slowly over the past couple years. So I checked both the World and US categories. I didn't check the High End US box because I do have some that are not CHCU65 Graded, which is what some people seem to draw as a line it seems, so it's low to mid I suppose. But my world notes are (almost) all top grade. Interesting survey.
I collect $1 FRN stars by print run. I try to get CU, but sometimes, I'll take a dirty F just to fill the hole! I hope to one day complete the 1995 collection (which was 48 print runs, some of which were odd and small). I also collect other stars, and have recently decided (upon getting a $20 and $100 1950-D) that I might do a complete set of all 1950 (blank through E) notes (I have 5-6 so far). John
North49guy.... My favorite note as far as Artistry is the 1874-1878 United States Note (Legal Tender) Fr# 185a thru 185d This note was also issued in 1880 and carried on with the same vignettes Fr# 185e thru 185m. Engraved by Charles Burt, one of my favorite Engravers portraying "Victory" and Gen Joseph King Mansfield is just to me stunning. From both Series and all Fr#s there are single digit examples extant. For several Fr#s they are simply unknown. RickieB
that would be a prize note to own RickieB! Good luck I find it interesting to see so many folks choosing the low to mid level range in the US smal and large sized notes. certainly explaine's all the competitive bidding when i do find one lol
