I submitted to PCGS and it came back questionable color (Genuine Holder). Anyone think it would grade at NGC. I am about to submit several coins and trying to decide which ones. I really like this coin and was hoping it would grade. "> "> ">
IMO it's highly likely that NGC will not grade it either, or at most put it in a DETAILS slab. This opinion is based upon experience.
The colors look "to new" - think about it. The colors look "to new" - think about it. This coin is 84 years old and the "color" looks like "last week". It's just does not look right at all and is not a hard date so move on with this one. I think it looks pretty but it ain't right.
if you're bound and determined to get it slabbed, send it to PCGS again. But wait a bit. IMO you'd have a better chance with them because of their inconsistency in this area. That said, and hopefully you understand my reasons doing this - care to explain to us what you have done to that coin prior to submitting it ?
The problem is that the colors on that coin look exactly like the colors on the cents I occasionally find in the bottom of the washer after a cycle. Basically those colors look washed/painted on.
The color looks unnatural and I don't think it would grade at NGC, either. Even if it were natural, however, I'm not sure that the (low) value of the coin would justify the grading and postage fees.
Actually, the color doesn't look like a just made, un-mellowed example would look. But if it did, that wouldn't be a reason to declare it unnatural. There are a great many early uncirculated Lincoln cents with full mint red color which are indeed original. Some of them are still in original rolls, while others have been removed and sold individually.
Thanks guys. Doug- I don't recall doing anything to this coin (it was not "dirty"). The most I did was mineral oil or Coin Care some time ago. It has sat in the album for a while.
Well Boss, I really don't know of anyone who would say that applying mineral oil or Coin Care to the coin is - not doing anything. And that very well may be why PCGS rejected the coin.
