Howdy peeps, Here's a 1913-S T2 Buffalo for sale on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-US-COIN-5-CENTS-1913-S-INDIAN-AU_W0QQitemZ310116243941 So, who can't tell it's a counterfeit? :hail: If you check the seller's feedback as a buyer, you'll find out who they got this from, including the rest of the counterfeits mixed in with the authentic coinz he's selling. :goof: Ribbit Ps: Here are a few more counterfeits by that seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-US-COIN-1-4-DOLLAR-1921-XF_W0QQitemZ150343611155 http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-US-COIN-5-CENTS-1914-D-UNC-PROOF-LIKE_W0QQitemZ310116245344 And this one, the pics were photoshop'd: http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-US-COIN-1-2-DOLLAR-1825-AU_W0QQitemZ310143339605 Enlarge the pics by 200% and the smudges are clearly visible. That makes me wonder if it's also a counterfeit? :goofer:
Check out the seller's location! I'd have a hard time spending that kind of money if it were an American seller on ebay. There are a lot of fools shopping on ebay, but maybe none that stupid!!!
Toad, The photoshopped coin looked fairly obvious but how could you tell that the nickels were counterfeit?
Well the coloration is off, the letters are blurry on the reverse, the details are mushy when they almost never are on the 13's in general, the list goes on from there, but those were just the most glaring as soon as I pulled up the auction.
Ok Toad, thx for the heads up I posted a comment!! He certainly has more than one strange looking coin for sure!! :thumb:
No certfication, no deal. Unknown dealer located in Argentina, no deal. These new counterfeits, most likely from China, are very dangerous and could fool most collectors. I am very disapointed with Ebay. Mike
BQ hit it! :thumb: The other thing is the roundness of any of the letters/date. When a die is engraved improperly, the letters look rounded when they should be flat. I commonly see that on the poor quality counterfeit silver dollars out of the orient. :goofer: Ribbit
Great catch! :thumb: It's too "curvy" and a authentic mint mark is more scrunched than that one. Ribbit
I agree. The reverse of the coin also has almost to much detail for an 1913 S Type I... those coins were struck like junk... That was the first thing I noticed.
