Woooow, that is really neat. I wonder if that legit or post-mint or some strange coincidence. Anyhow that would be such a neat coin to have, awesome find!!!!

It could be a dropped letter or it could be a convenient post mint whack. I don't think anyone is going to be able to tell you much more then that with the pics provided.

What year is it? if it is post 1990, the mintmark was not done separately, but on the master die.

I do not believe it is a misplaced mint mark, but larger photos would help to determine what it might be.

I believe that D is upside down, so I doubt it's a misplaced mintmark. But, it is weird.

Just my opinion , but the combination of the beard a punch like the marks to the right give it the appearance of a MM , I'm thinking post mint . Hope I'm wrong though .

yeah that second picture makes me think it's post mint. The marks in the field are definitely post mint and I would suspect the mark on the chin is as well.

It looks like some killer teeth marks. The old pirate gold test maybe?

I think it looks like post mint damage... nothing more...

Notice also there seems to be a similar mark on the left rim in the last photo. I go with post mint also. Sorry.

I say post mint also, you can see marks from other coins.

It's just damage. This too is probably a result of a hit to the chin. Look at the big picture. There is damage in the field just to the right of the anomaly. Whatever did that damage also caused the issue on the chin.

    Thanks,
    Bill

That is very nice and truly rare!! I wonder if someone working at the mint gets bored once in awhile and intentionally throws us collectors out a bone? No, forget it just thinking out loud! I'm sure it's just a minting error and definitely a keeper. Most likely would bring you a very tidy premium.
