This weekend I got some really beautiful world coins. These were just posted in the CT Coin Chat section. Some of them only cost $2 each and they are beautiful. There is a nicely toned Italy 100 Lire with the young girl in medieval dress described in that post. If you world coin experts can add to the 100 Lire story, then please check out that post in the Coin Chat section.

I also got these coins from Burma, Greenland, and Russia. These Greenland & Burma coins are duplicates but I just couldn’t resist. IMO, the Greenland 25 Ore & 1 Krone grade UNC. The 5 Kroner grades EF. I don’t have experience grading the old Burma coin. The Burma 1-Rupee includes a lot of detail and has a really nice original look to it. There may be some wear or strike weakness in the high points so I’m calling it an AU grade.

Thanks for letting me share. I’ll take photos of the 1770 Russian 5 Kopek tonight. Please post photos of your new purchases.

    Very best regards,

    Hello V,

I'm not collecting to an animal theme. Now you have me looking at the animals more closely.

It would be interesting to see which predator would prevail in a fight between the Greenland polar bear and the Iranian lion. I suspect that if the lion didn't have the sword, then the polar bear would probably win. I base this opinion upon the polar bear's tracking capability, bone density & strength. The male lion has its mane to protect its throat but I suspect the bear's strength would somehow get through that obstacle. Fortunately, the geography & climate of the world is such that they would probably never meet.

I bought a Great Britain 10 Pence coin this weekend. It is proof and it has a great frosty-white lion on the reverse.

On the Bavarian Thaler, I like the design on the side with the date. That must be the reverse of the coin if we consider the side with the monarch to be the obverse. Of course, the USA half is a fine example of the seated half with motto on the reverse. At first, I thought it was an 1873 without arrows which would be a really tough coin but your photo was easily enlarged and it revealed 1878. Thanks for posting the photos.

Well the only coins I have from Burma are on this antique womans headdress. Acha tribesmen, originated in Tibet, thus the colors. Check out the coins on this thing. Traci

Actually it is a half dollar 1873. The picure is only a scan, so the details aren't great. If it was with an 1873 - open 3 I would be a happy man ;)

    Hello Ripley,
The antique woman's headdress deserves a sharper photo :).

That is a pretty cool hat. I have two American Indian rugs where some of the patterns are bright red. I am told that the American Indians that made the rugs used cricket blood to stain the red fibers. Of course, my rugs have no coins attached to them & we do not walk on them.

My grandfather bought them while he & I were on a rock-hounding trip when I was a kid. It was 1970 & I forget if we were in New Mexico or Arizona.
