Hello all, I made some additions to my website. Comments are welcome and appreciated. https://www.historicalancientromancoins.com
Very handsome and informative site. I know absolutely bupkis about ancient coins. I see you are using posts to show coins. Just wondering if you’ve considered adding a gallery to pull things together. I’m trying to convert my site to Wordpress and keep trying to decide the best approach. My site is old and not mobile friendly. Thanks for the inspiration.
First: @Orfew Well done! Great coins and content! Having just (finally) begun a website myself, I know how much time, thought, photography, and work is involved. I ditto Old Error Guy's, "Thanks for the inspiration"! My new, little, fledgling website utilizes Wordpress, and as a result it is also quite blog-like. My experience is that a template is necessary, and as soon as you choose a template you are pretty much boxed-in as far as formatting/expansion possibilities (such as for instance the addition of a gallery that links via clicking an image in the gallery to the individual coin's information page). Although I would love to include a gallery on mine, it just does not seem to be a possibility because I lack both the knowledge/skills/experience/time to design and code a website from scratch, and the big buck$ it seems to take to pay someone to do it. I would benefit from finding someone who is honest and experienced with Wordpress templates, who I could pay a reasonable amount to help. But last time I tried that, despite being careful, I got ripped off. Crooks can be clever. :-(
Very nice, Andrew - well organized and easy to follow. I have archived all of my own web sites and pages - too difficult to keep them current for me now.
Many thanks Donna. You should think about building one for your artifacts. I know there would be many people interested.
Thanks, but I'm not sure I want too many people interested in my artifacts! Especially if I identified myself by my real name. Plus, I wouldn't want to be harassed by the anti-collector types or those who assume that every artifact -- or ancient coin, for that matter -- was looted. Even though mine are hardly of the class that get countries of origin suing for repatriation! In the grand scheme of things, mine are a dime a dozen. When I visited that store on Friday, the dealer had on display an Ancient Egyptian tomb relief from the Old Kingdom, going for $300,000. And a number of very impressive Greek and Roman sculptures, and Greek vases, in the five-figure range. Out of the more than 50 small artifacts I have, I've only paid more than three figures a few times. And not much more.
Your website is fantastic @Orfew . I enjoy browsing your site and several others run by members here from time to time. I often view the web pages on my cell phone and one thing that I have noticed on a great many sites (not just yours!) is that when I start to scroll up even a very small amount the header pops up and takes up about 1/3 of the screen. This is a small thing but can make it harder to browse when you want to scroll up and down to browse the content you want to read or look for links you haven’t yet read. See below for what I mean. When scrolling down I can see more of the screen. When scrolling up the header appears and covers a lot of the site content. I wish there was a way to turn this site behavior off on the user end.
Thanks, sorry this was annoying. I had actually planned to address a number of issues in the next few weeks. When I do I will try to address this issue. I want people to enjoy my site and not get annoyed by it. Thanks very much for bringing this to my attention.
To be clear I do very much enjoy your website. I think making information about (and images of) our coins available in a format such as you are doing is important to reinforcing how private ownership is a positive thing. Well done!
Thanks for posting a link to your website Orfew, saved it in my favorites. I really enjoy browsing other members' coins when I have a few minutes to sprare, either via their own sites or gallerys such as hosted by forum. By the way, is poor Constantine lost between the Flavians on your website, at page 5? ;-) But serious, your description of that coin made me come up with the following suggestion: perhaps it would be a neat feature to be able to see all your plate coins together? Maybe this is already a feature on your site and I was unable to find it though... In any case, just a friendly suggestion from my part
