Yes & wouldn't it be wonderful if some new artist would introduce 3-D sculpting into some of our new coin designs , come on this is the 21 Century lets bring the U. S. Mint into this new era of coin designs . Lets face it the people in coin collecting are ready to move ahead :high5: with some new innovations , ideas & designs.;)

Oh there will be new talent, the master artists tend to leave the program and apprentice artist rotate up to become the master artists while new artists are selected to fill the apprentice spots. It's just if past trends continue, they will all be 2-D art specialists and not sculptors. And tht isn't surprising, there are not a lot of professional artists out there working in three dimentionial art. Not a lot of professional sculptors or engravers.)

I agree with you when it comes to the colorized coins,, when I see these folks taking the state quarters and colorizing them it turns my stomach, it looks cheap, cheap & cheap:( why ruin a beautiful coin this way:goofer:

agreed, but certainly the mint will have to come up with new ideas , foreign countrys are already changing the landscape on coin designs and paper money, or should I say plastic money being made down-under:)

Very interesting article greeny I'd not read that before , I love the fact that they are keeping it in house and looking for U. S. Citizens , I'am impressed & look forward to some new blood (artist) bringing out some great new coin & currency designs, how exciting. I think the mint sees this can be a very profitable venture if handled correctly:thumb:

You mean like the great designs the new blood have produced in the past few years. And the great design ideas for the 2009 and 2010 Lincoln cents they came up with.

I'am not quite following your reasoning , but just for the fact the mint is taking steps to hire new artist is at least a positive step in the right direction & if you take into account that the current artist & designers just spent 10 yrs. redesigning the state quarters & brought a bevy of new coin collectors on to the scene says they are doing something right. Also the State quarters program was the most profitable venture the U. S. Mint has ever ventured into , they sold record numbers :kewl: & it was a huge boost too coin collecting :smile & that's gets a :thumb: in my book.

Not to forget that the Disabled American Veterans Coin will also be a success in my book & I can't wait to order mine , also don't forget the U. S. Parks Quarters comming out in 2010 , I'am definitly looking forward to all the new designs they'll be comming up with & for sure I'll be collecting them just as I did the State Quarters, in silver proofs of course ;>)

Vets take care of other Vets, The American Legion ans DAV are only a couple examples. As a 26 year military veteran...... 75% of the charities that I donate to relate to veterans. God bless the veterans that currently serve or have served in the past, and most importantly the vets that are disabled and the ones that have lost their lives. "Freedom is not Free."

Amen Harryj, couldn't agree with you more, in that post I was trying to point out some negative thoughts about the coins design & the $ 10 added to the coin to go towards a new memorial in Washington D. C. would be much more suited to go to the Vets themselves. If you read my other posts you would find I also come from a military family & the most recent Vets in my family is my oldest son who spent 10 yrs. in the U. S. A. F. & his wife who also spent 10 Yrs. in the Air Force. Believe me I know "Freedom is not Free" and I also Bless our Troups both Past, Present & Future , and I also Salute you and "God Bless all out Veterans" , I've been there Harryj I know where your comming from :thumb:

The Artist Infusion Program, where they "bring in new talent" has been going on for at least four to six year now with artists rotating into and out of the program every year or two. So the Mint has had a supply of "new blood" creating the designs for something like six years now. Do you like the wonderful new designs they have been creating for us these past six years?

I guess I am a little confused, weren't the designs submitted by many folks then approved by the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and the Commission of Fine Arts so this new blood did not really design these Lincoln's but rather transferred the design to coin molds?
