Some day, when I feel like I have 30 or 40 bucks to "waste" (not bloody likely), I'd like to buy a common Low MS Morgan or Walker, and just carry it around in my pocket. Maybe take pictures once a week to see how long until it wore down to G-4. Anyone ever done this sort of thing before? Joe
Well Homer, I've got a 2002 silver eagle that I've been carrying around in my pocket for the last five years. She started out in mint state and has gradually degraded to about "fine". She definately has "character". Wouldn't recommend this being done to a high grade Morgan or Walker....
Ken thats a lot of L-P D-n-e- "READ BETWEEN THE LINES" Like to buy a vowel or two? to wear a ASE down from a UNC to a F LOL! J/K
Somewhere I have 1794 LC large cent restrike that I carried around in my pocket, but after being overseas, moving, etc. I have no idea where it is.
That's the big reason I'd advise against carrying around anything valuable... people lose pocket change all of the time. I know people that have carried around 1 oz gold pieces as their pocket pieces but they can afford it if they happen to lose it. I don't carry one around as I don't like to artificially wear any of my coins. I usually just carry around an Ike or two to spend instead
I thought about doing that with my 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Double Eagle... carry it for awhile, wear it down to VF or XF, I'm sure it would be one of the only ones out there in that grade range. But I just can't bring myself to intentionally wear down a coin and I'd probably end up losing it in someone's couch cushions anyways.
Other than me ?? I wanna know who this person(s) is :secret: 'Course after today, I won't be doing it any longer either as somebody else is now the proud owner of this one
I've got a box of pocket pieces that I've been carrying for years. Once in a while I'll give the current coin away and then I dig out another. There are a few embers in there and a gold plated Kennedy, a silver round, some silver Russian and Polish coins, etc.
You actually carried around a gold coin as a pocket piece ?? How often would you take it out and show someone? They probably thought it was cool intially ..... then if they knew anything about gold prices .... thought you were crazy hya:
A pocket piece was something that was really common many years ago. I suspect this is fading due to many things. For one, clothing is much thinner and the more you carry, the more you feel it. Also, pockets used to be tuff and today you find money on the ground from pockets that get holes in them. Then too, the problem of accidently spending something you shouldn't. Me, I'd rather carry currency or that famous plastic thing.
Cute Ain't she sweet! I quite often have a 1886 CC Morgan in my pocket. OK, so there is no such thing, but it says it is. :hail:
Only for the past 15 years or so. 'Course this one here was my third. I spent the other two Not at the same time though mind ya :kewl:
