I think what makes these different than Dansco is the sleeve that covers the whole album but now Dansco has a similar sleeve. Personally I did not go with them because I already had some Dansco albums and I wanted a similar look for all of them.
I own several IS albums, boxes and many 2x2s. The price of the albums is nothing compared to what it takes to fill them! I prefer them. Some people say they're worried about the slide scratching the surface of the coins. When I put one in the album, with gloves on of course, I just be sure to push it all the way in against the back slide. And then I never move the back slide. Only the front one. It will never touch. These albums have been discussed many times on here if you want to do a search.
I too use Dansco ATM, but, need to replace one and order a few new ones. Was thinking about going all Dansco or all Intercept and didnt know which would be better.
Their "technology" is actually a chemical compound they infuse into the mylar. It was developed at the old Bell Labs for protecting electronic gear and it works in that application and environment. Intercept Shield, on the other hand, refuses to submit any of their products for independent third-party testing. They'll show you test results, sort of, on their website. The problem I have with that is they did the test themselves so naturally everything is great! I wouldn't spend the money because it reeks of PT Barnum. And IIRC (I could be wrong) the company was started by the same guy who went on to found PCGS, and that only adds to my suspicions.
The Intercepts have material in them that is supposed to clean the air around the coin for up to 10 years. And then they say you're supposed to replace them for optimum protection. I like the slab covers and boxes as well. It's like double protection. I wouldn't be afraid to order one. I think you'd like the IS album. The album itself has the material in it and then you slide it in another cover that has the IS material. Like double protection again.
Well, people have used them for many years and they have said it prevented their coins from toning. I'll let everyone know how it goes with mine in another 9 years. Are they really that much more than a Dansco anyway? If you only need 2 or 3 of them, how much are you saving? I guess it comes down to personal preference. I haven't done any testing on them personally. I'm only going by what the claims are and people's experience with them.
I was searching through these old posts on albums and read this one. I bought an Intercept album for the state quarters and the coins are loose and won't stay oriented upright (they spin around). I was needless to say, very disappointed. I'll stick with my Dansco's
I like them; I use them. For better coins, especially if they are MS or at least have Mint shine, I recommend them as one option. AirTite type holders and an appropriate album is another. For lesser coins Dansco is eminently acceptable.
