I am going to assemble a set of silver state quarters in PCGS PR-69 DCAM just for the heck of it.

I was out of coins for a while doing guitar when the state quarters came out. I do admit, it got me back into collecting.

Might be money wasted, but I want a complete set. I sold my last one to buy some key Lincolns before I started the website and became a " dealer"

I miss them. They were pretty to look at and a nice complete set always looks good when displayed.

Not a waste, silver proof statehoods are the only statehoods worth having. You can get most of the year sets (five proof quarters) for around the cost of an ASE, that 1999 set is a bit taxed imo though. Keep your eye out for good deals and you'll find them.

    Best guess.
    Probably a worthwhile effort.
I like the concept of matched sets. I've got several.

I think it just shows a true collector-urge to want to assemble a set of state quarters and 69 DCAM will look nice. I have been trying to put a set of state quarters together out of circulation for about a year now -- I am still about 20 short, mostly Denver issues since I live on the East Coast. These have almost nothing to do with my "real collection" but I put them in a Dansco album and enjoy complaining about the amateurishness of some of the designs. What are they worth? Oh, about 25 cents a piece but there's something liberating about looking for them in my change.

    Enjoy the pursuit.

Good Luck! And I do not think it is wasted money. Probably always be a market for these.

I was buying raw Unc state quarters from dealers.
I didn't care about the grade as long as they appeared to be at least -63.
But once the Territories are completed, that's it.
    No more Uncs.
I'll collect the National Parks right out of circulation and try to trade for the ones I can't find.
I'm East Coast too, but at least we get lots of tourists to Wash, DC, so maybe I'll have a better chance at the Denvers.

Not a waste Jack.. Nothing I personally collect but what your doing is what we all say the basic root of collecting is.. Collecting what we like/appeals to you.. Good luck in your quest to get a complete set and hope to see you again at the MSNS show in Nov. Jerry

I think it will be a fun project. IMHO, the silver state quarters are the only coins in the series that have any chance of being valuable over the long run and are the most attractive of all of them too. So, it's the best of both worlds. Go for it and have fun!

Good luck with your set. I have the silver proofs in a Dansco but have been thinking how nice a full set would be in NGC or PCGS slabs. I actually perfer the NGC for appearances. If you want to go with 69DCAM coins the prices are usually less than the cost of slabbing. This is probably a perfect time to put a set together.

I think the set would look very nice and hey, silver is silver. I also think high grade coins will always have a market.

Btw, if you want to make your task easier, you could do an sgs PR 70 set. :D  ;)

    OK, you're crazy! :D

Why not just a nice set n by cherrypicking from the proof sets of those years? Wouldn't you have just as nice coins for a fraction of the investment, particularly if someone as experienced as you were the one doing the picking?

Said another way, wouldn't a collection of 69-DCAMs have an inordinate amount of value in the plastic rather than the coins?

Just wondering and playing a bit of devil's advocate here....Mike

Oh yeah, still have the 175. I have been playing it these days, but I tape paper over the Nuge's autograph, I do not want to wear it off.

Leadfoot, you ring true my friend, make alot of sense.

I know I'll be paying for plastic, but it is something I can do on the cheap with patience. YOur idea is not to bad wither, mayble I'll do both, a Dansco always looks cool as well.
