Kind of my thoughts exactly. While these are fun to find in circulation...even in very high grades they have very little value because they were saved because of their perceived rarity at the time. I keep anyone that I find because they are a neat find...but you can purchase gem examples very inexpensively.
you can buy Gem's all day long at $6-10 bucks... Rickie, Question, .....as my Dad worked for the Federal Reserve Bank for over 47 years...I had over $200 in Barr star notes....being a teenager durring that time I spent them on wine, women ,and song! My question is how much did all those songs drinks and women cost me? LOL I have only held a few notes in my collection mostly silver cert's and $2.00 notes . I know you are a paper collector and was just wondering how much my teenage hormones cost me...LOL Paddy
When Joseph Barr went into office he did so with less than a month remaining in his term. So, people figured notes with his name on them would be rare and valuable and thus were horded and saved. So, a large supply exist in very high grade including star notes. So, none of the Barr notes are very valuable today. High grade gem examples can be found for only a few dollars. So, the joy you got out of spending them on wine, women ,and song was probably money well spent.
Paddy... That is hard to say with out seeing the notes...LOL I bet you had a good time, did'nt you? Now that all those hormones have calmed down and you work full time (I assume)...time to start building that collection, right? Good luck with it and never look back at what could have been...that time is gone...look toward the future and build that collection! Best regards, RickieB
OMG I only hope the hormones have calmed down...@ 55 Y/O I hate to think .....lets just say this old dog would rather lay on the pourch that chase after any young stuff any more lol besides the wife would have me at the vet for a little nip & Tuck!:crying: As for the colection I have more coins than I really know what to do with....the vaults are loaded ,at the Bank there is 5 safety deposit boxes loaded. I been collecting since I was 7 Y/O ....thats 48 years of hoarding coins TG I only spent the paper money not any of the silver I got as a paper boy in the 60's.. plus what my dad got from the FRB. And yes it was a fun run had a great time.... college was a blast! As for the notes they were UNC. crisp most in order. Well ( ! ) sight is always 20/20! A buddy of mine never knew who Jimmy was for years he buy a subscription to a out door concert hall here in Md. he always sell me the tickets at cost so he would not loose any money on his package of shows. Until the day I took him to a Buffett concert...never saw a ticket again! :headbang:
