I thought the moon had an atmosphere...it's just not as dense as the Earth's. Otherwise, the astronauts would have drifted off of the surface when they jumped.

I seem to remember when I went to the Kansas Cosmosphere that on Mercury 4 Gus Grissom carried several pieces of paper currency (silver certificates if I remember) that had been signed by various people. They were lost when the craft sank, but were recovered and preserved at the Cosmosphere when it was recovered in 1999.

It has gravitational pull to keep astronauts on.

If it was up to me it would be not just one coin but the whole SBA series. They should stay well preserved on the moon in a vacuum, and maybe in a thousand years or so someone might think they're worth something.

Dimeguy, I know it's not a science class here, but just want to let you know the Moon does not have any atmosphere. Perhaps you are thinking of Mars, which does have a thin atmosphere.

And Noost is correct... it's the gravity (1/6 of Earth's) that keeps the astronauts on the surface of the Moon.

    Alright, enough science for today.

Yeah, and it even shows the earth in the background so that the aliens will know where to find us! LOL

Interesting question. I devote my spare time, however, to thinking about what kind of gonkulator I would leave on Titan. If I could.

    The moon landing hasn't happened...yet !

It was faked in 1969, for political reasons.

I'd drop a couple of pennies on the moon. That way, they'll be there forever. After all, no one would ever bother to reach down and pick them up. It isn't worth the effort.
