What coin would you take to leave on the moon if you could

I remember when I was 12 sitting there watching them land and take that first step on the moon and it was so exciting. I wanted to be an astronaut, wow that was so cool blasting off and traveling through space going to the moon, what boy didn't want to grow up and go to the moon after that. Now as I sit here in Florida and seeing them go up all the time but now there building a new ship and they want to return to the moon, I start thinking if I would go to the moon would I take a coin with me and what coin would I take and leave it there on the moon. Wow what if he left a 1969 Kennedy Half dollar in that footprint for someone alongtime from now to find, that would be be so cool? So my question is if you had a chance to go to the moon what coin would you leave behind for someone to find, I myself would take a silver commemorative Apollo coin or maybe one of the marshal islands shuttle commemorative coins. Let me know what coin would you leave.

HEY! does NGC or PCGS grade these coins and do you happen to have a complete list or close of any and all space type coins???

I never knew these gems existed :D yay my 3rd true numismatic collection (not bullion or investing collection) is starting :D

Definitely my choice would be an Eisenhower Dollar.
Obverse:A coin honoring a man who helped win World War II keeping America free to be able less than a generation later to go to the moon.
Reverse: Commemorating America being the first to land on the moon.

    Just my humble opinion :)

I would leave my 1964-D Peace Dollar on the moon:

Doesn't do me any good on Earth since the Secret Service would take it from me if I tried to display it in public or attempt to sell it. At least it would be safe on the moon ;)

I'd put an ancient up there so that in the future others would think we were on the moon way before we actually were. Makes me laugh thinking how they would try to fit that in the history books.

I believe the IKE's would be the right choice, I have never even heard of that space shuttle coin that is a nice piece. As far as the 1964 Peace Dollar why would they take it, I don't understand?

Wasn't that whole moon landing filmed in a studio:D;)
Anyway I think a Kennedy half dollar is appropriate because he said in a 1961? speech I believe that by the end of the decade we would go to the moon and we did.

Only way I'm leaving a coin on the moon is if someone steals one from my kids after my demise. :)

The 1964-D Peace Dollar was never released for general circulation and are therefore illegal to own. All were supposedly melted but there are a few out there who strongly believe a few are out there hidden in collections.

How about this U.S commem that had a space shuttle on it, well half a space shuttle at least :)

I'd go with the Ike. The reverse commemorating the moon landing is one of my favorites.

First choice would be a 1964 Kennedy Half
Second would be a 1976 Eisenhower Dollar
I think I would like both!

An silver Ike dollar and a 1964 Kennedy half. Those two coins for sure.

I also wonder how the metal surfaces would react in that environment. They would be exposed to gamma rays, X-rays, etc. But it's also a vacuum. I think toning needs oxygen to happen, so maybe they wouldn't tone at all.

But the high energy radiation would change the silver to something else, so it would still break down and we'd see a change. I wonder how long that would take, though. Probably wouldn't tone or exhibit any visible changes for a lifetime.
