http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?type=notice-winnernotification&Sale_No=29085&Lot_No=28980 Now I want your opinions. I think I paid a great price. Below bid and just about what Numismedia quotes. I paid $967 for this coin. Reason being. I do not like my MS 63 Morgan. All my other coins have grown on me except this ugly duckling. So, to Ebay it goes. I'm so happy I got this coin. Not the best Heritage price, but I'd say one of the best. It's in that range.. What do you all think?? The only thing I'm not extremely crazy about is that dark spot near the crown area..but, I think the rest of the coin is nice.
Congrats on the MS65. I'll have to log onto Heritage & look at the coin more closely. I hope that you like the real coin as much as you like the Heritage photo. Always buy what you like. If you don't like something about a coin, then pass on it because it's not going to get any better & you aren't going to like it any more as time goes on.
BNB you will probably be mad at me but there is something on the reverse just to the right of the arrow tips, it almost looks like a large milk spot. It is too distracting to me.
No not at all. I actually agree that this coin is not nice, and to be honest with you, right now I'm speaking with HA to see if they could switch me out for one that I was about to bid on. It appeared to me that after sitting on this purchase for a day, I just looked at it differently. I actually let myself not care about that little dark spot on the crown, but then when I looked further into the coin, I just started seeing more that I didn't necessarily care to notice before pulling the trigger. I'll keep you all updated.
Congratulations on your purchase! The important thing is that you like the coin. And once you get to the MS65 grade, these coins generally have good eye appeal. Mintmark CC Morgans will always be popular. In general, an MS65 will have hits and/or marks on it. If it didn't, it would grade higher! It just depends on the location and size of the marks. MS65 generally does not have any large marks in prime areas, but there certainly can be marks on the coin. It just depends on total eye appeal.
Congrats, I like the light gold toning. I bit more chatter than I usually like on the cheek but otherwise a very nice coin. I guess your next upgrade will have to be 65 DMPL.
Hello again BNB, I signed-in to Heritage & took a look at your MS65 Morgan. If you like generic bright coins, then you found one. It appears bright & lusterous but has some contact marks in areas that I personally find distracting. If you like the coin in hand, then that is what matters most. I much prefer this 1885CC MS65 which is on Heritage right now: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1129&Lot_No=1060&LotIdNo=1158&ts=off#Photo
I don't like that coin @ 65 -- too many hits in the prime focal area (cheek) for that grade, IMO. However, what's most important is what YOU think about the coin in-hand.
Final update. I got the coin. I really don't think it's that bad especially for now the total price of $957. When it comes, if I don't like it, eBay I know will be very kind to me. So, let's see. Hope to see some of you at Long Beach, I sure might be buying/bidding there!
But don't you think for $957 it's worth buying? I mean, that's an easy flip right there in my opinion. Least I could get offered is bid.
Based on what others have brought, I don't understand why you think it's an easy flip. Go ahead and list on on Ebay and see how you do - perhaps the results will open your eyes (or mine).
What do you mean by based on what others have brought? Are you talking about on eBay? One thing I must say and I could dead wrong here but I'm optimistic and that is, I believe I have a strong sale's background based on my father and uncle's business(they sell classic cars, rolls royce, bentley, ferrari, etc) and I down the road if I decide I want to deal coins, I believe I can really make something sound appealing even if it's not. For example, my 1885 cc , some would love it, it just wasn't for me. But am I going to be honest and say I didn't like the toning in my ebay ad? No, I'll say it's gorgeous and depending on who finds my description accurate with their goals then they'll buy it.
Wait, why is it not an easy flip? If I put a coin like this back up on eBay a week from now(granted I don't like it) what is there to say I won't pull in $1,000? If the ad is made properly, I believe it could be possible, but I am leaving room for me to be wrong because I have been on numerous occasions. I just see this as a learning lesson and I am willing to lose a hundred or two to understand true value. I am slowly learning that price guides really don't mean squat. Or, retail price guides for that matter. If you can't buy at blue sheet of below bid, then as an investor, don't buy at all. That's now becoming my motto.
Based on what Heritage has sold others for. It's sad to see that you plan to hype items you sell and describe them in ways that you don't believe.
Hmm, not quite with you on that one, Mark. I don't believe it's good business for anyone to say in the ad, "Well, I really didn't like this coin much because of it's toning or because it's this.." Why should I? Why should I remind someone of the flaws if they can't see it for themselves? I mean, just because I didn't like it doesn't mean someone else won't. So why not sell it as such?
There's a big difference between the above and calling a coin gorgeous when you feel otherwise. It's dishonest.
Yeah, I hear you on that. I try to leave my own personal feelings out of the ad as best I can. I use words that evoke emotion in a potential buyer to try to get him or her to buy. It's sales. Does that mean that when the buyer gets the coin it won't be gorgeous? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But what I wouldn't do, is due to being strictly a "truther", is bring up anything negative about the coin that may hurt it. Because again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I believe, so why should I remind someone otherwise?
