Hello, with the upcoming stimulus money, I’ve decided to purchase one of two coins that I’ve had my eye one for some time. Sorry I do not have any pics to share. First coin is a 1859 O seated dollar and the second coin is a 1865s seated half. I need both for my type set. Both are priced in the $425 range. The dollar is VF and the half is XF. I’m only going to be able to get one. Which one would you go for? I see very few seated dollars in my area
A VF Seated dollar could be CAC material with original surfaces and great eye appeal, but it could also be a low-end, scratched/cleaned or ugly as hell coin. So it‘s pointless to give advice without having seen any pictures. If both coins are „equally nice“ and problem free I‘d buy the higher grade coin.
Select the one that fits your collection the best. That's it. One will be a better fit than the other I'm sure and in the end with a type set, that's what matters. One example of each type, forming an eye appealing completed display. I'm sure one will just work better with what you are looking for as the end result than the other. That's how you decide. The one that doesn't quite fit so good you pass on and wait for a better example or more money for one that fits what you are building.
Thanks for the replies. This is why I love this forum. I was leaning towards the half just because it was a harder date. Now I will try to pick up the seated dollar. Thanks everyone
I t seems like every time I get FREE MONEY Something usually happens to erase the free money. Like the last time I got the $600 My car needed a new starter...it was a $640 charge.
hey NorCal ive been in these situations before and will be again. i guess its part of the game. it just comes down to what you want. look at it like this. you like and need them both so you win either way. your pick will not be the wrong pick brother. good luck man and upload some pictures of them both when you can
