Bought 170.00 worth of halves from my bank. 13 Frankies, 19 Walkers, 2 90% Kennedys and 3 40%. Then I picked up my box of halves from my other bank and pulled out 19 40% Kennedys. I still have to go through the box of pennys to! In the past 3 weeks I have plucked over 120 silver halves out of circulation!!!!!!!! Happy Happy, Joy Joy!!!!!!!:kewl:

    GypsyTears.
Are they "S" mint marked? That's the first sign. Also, compare the "look" and edge to any of your 40% halves. Any silver 1976 are 40% so they would look and sound the same (not that I condone dropping your coins!)
The mint did make cupronickel S mint marked halves though so you have to go by weight, appearance and sound.

Yea, the edges are toned to a dark purple. I will try the sound test again and check the mint mark too. Thanks.

    IKE's

Well, my roll searching luck has not been too good lately. I have searched 5 boxes of halves, 4 of quarters, 4 of dimes without finding any silver. Sigh, today I had to go to a relatives house about 45 minutes away. I got in the area a little early so I thought I would walk in a bank or two looking for halves. I went in 3 banks and netted a total of $6 in halves. Oddly enough, the first bank had two IKE dollars and the teller offered them instead. The second bank had $80 in IKEs and the 3rd had exactly four more rolls of IKEs. I would have never thought I would only find 12 half dollars but find 162 big IKE dollars.

    Crazy to me!

Worst luck ever today with nickel searching. $ 20 yielded only a 56-D. Nothing else under 1960.....

I don't get to search many half dollar rolls and I don't collect any after 1970, but are there certain ones I should look for other than silver, silver clads and proofs? I also wondered if nickels are worth the time to search? thanks Kent

Picked up some rolls and thought they were already searched as they were in string & son rolls that were opened and folded over on one side. To my surprise I found a silver S mint bicentennial, a 64 and 2X68-D :)

GypsyTears. WOW, great pickups especially 19 Walkers....incredible.

I went to about 7 banks and got 22 bucks of halves with 1 64 and 6 40%ers. Then, one more bank netted me $390 in hand rolled halves. I looked through them and there was nothing except for in one roll......which had 12 40%ers all in a row.

I also got 5 rolls of LP2 and 16 rolls of LP3. I consider it a good weekend!!
