I found this while cruising through my Morgan Silver Dollars. The area I'm talking about is to the right of the eagle feather and (attached) to the wheat stalk. Any Ideas. It is a clearly defined area and definetly not PMD. I looked through VAM world and found nothing.
In my opinion it looks kind of like a die clash. I am no means an expert. Try looking on the exact spot on the opposite side of the coin and see if you can see that shape. If you can then I would say die clash. And one more thing just because you can't find it listed does not mean it does not mean it does not exist. It is a common clash area on Morgans, it's a clash of the cap on the obverse. It's a pretty strong clash, nice find. Here's an overlay.
Thanks. I have another one on an 1884-P but it is very faint. Would this be considered for a VAM? I really appreciate the information.
It still is possible it's one of the clashed VAM varieties, look for the clashed letters. IMO clashed letters are one of the hardest things to spot, unless it's extreme. Lol so bust out that 30x loupe and good luck. And just in case you guys are interested, here's an overlay for the obverse.
