Hey everyone, I'm sure a thread or two have been opened about what you think is the most beautiful coin, but lets start a new one since we have so many more new members. You don't have to own the coin, I just want to know your opnion's of a coin that you think has the most beautiful design. Mine would be the Texas Comm. Half Dollar:
I'm currently in love with the standing liberty half dollar. Seeing one of these in mint state is amazing! There is a reason they still use that design on ASE's. Peace dollars and St. Gaudens double eagles are also very attractive designs.
I assume you mean Walkers, which is a fine choice. As I have said on other similar threads, I have to choose the Type 1 Buffalo's from 1913. What a design. Runners-up: Type 2 Buffalos, Walkers, Mercury dimes, Peace dollars, and I like the look of the Seated Liberty series from the 1800's.
You know, as I get older my tastes have changed. What I used to think was the best design or most beautiful is not what I now consider to be the best design. That being said I have always always appreciated bust coinage.
My favorite designs are probably in the world categories but I'll stick to U.S. designs for the sake where this is posted. I love the simplicity of the 1795 flowing hair, the walkers and a few others. I will revert to what I collect though which is Classic Head Half Eagles. I think it is a very under-appreciated design that got lost in a transition.
Very nice choices, as far as silver goes here's my choice. Gold is a bit more difficult but I'm comfortable with my choices. :kewl:
