The number of spouse coins this summer is giving me second thoughts. This is getting pricey. I am certain that I am not the only one noticing this.

No, I've had the same concerns...

**5 coins this year instead of 4
**higher costs this year because of floating mint prices
    **economy is bad
    **other coins I'd rather buy

I've seen lots of other express these concerns and call it quits on this series. However, I think that may make the 2009 coins big winners down the road. The unwanted modern coins may become wanted later on when the economy turns around and some folks come back to this series and want the low mintage 2009s... who knows??

I've held off buying any 2009 Spouse coins so far (I have all of the 2007 and 2008 coins), but I"m sure I'll buy them all before the end of the year... unless I find something else that I need spend the $6k or so on ;)

    Disappointing arrival today

Today was the day that I was expecting the latest FS coin to come in. Knowing that I would need a signature, I couldn't wait to get home. Unfortunately, I didn't get out of work until 6 and sure enough there was the infamous door tag from UPS letting me know that my package had arrived, but they need a signature to release the coin. I decided to go shopping at Sears for some manly tools and when I returned home guess what was sitting on my door step........ you guessed it!!!! It was the FS coin. What was even funnier was the fact that the door tag was still hanging there. I guess the UPS drive saw that my wife was home and decided to leave it. I couldn't wait to open it up, but when I did, I immediately noticed this very distracting strike through on the coin. Probably some fiber from one of the mint worker's cloths, but very noticeable by the naked eye. So back it will go. :( To ensure that I don't get the same coin back, I am going to have to reorder the coin next week when I get paid and send back the other one after I receive the new one. Its going to be a long couple of weeks. :headbang:

not sure you need the overkill of reordering a new coin??? I had a problem with one of my Dolley Madisons when they were first issued and I sent it in for a replacement and was definitely given a new coin. have you had a problem with getting back the same stuff before???

No, but when I had problems with some of the buffaloes last year, a mint representative told me to do it this way. She said it reduces any confusion
that an exchange may cause. I have done it both ways and have not had a problem either way, but don't want to take a chance. I would have been able to place an order for a new one right now, but the wife "borrowed" some money so now I have to wait.

Makes sense, thanks for the info... hopefully I'll never have to do that, but something tells me that I will someday ;)

Hopefully, you will never have to return anything either. I used to feel guilty for having to return a coin because of a "slight" mark or defect, but once these coins started going up to the $600 range, all that guilt went out the window. If I am paying that kind of money, I want perfection. Now, I will return anything if it isn't perfect. I usually end up returning 1-2 coins a year for some kind of problem such as this.

Wow as a set they look really nice together. Some of the individual coins just don't work by themselves and are helped out by the others.

I kept this set up when they were under $500 but sold them all when I realized I could not afford the rest. I kind of wish I would have kept with them now.

The drawings were outstanding. I had prayed that the proof finished product would be the same.
I think I might have to do a set.
I bought about a dozen early pices when gold was about 880 ,for near melt.
These as a total set might be worth something in the future. Sub sets of the unmarried Presidents , very active first ladies in politics, and ladies of natural beauty such as Julia Tyler. Some not attractive for any reason other than being first lady.
