Could be a bit of a retained break/IDB. When taking pictures, fill the photo with the coin and remove most of the background. Can you get us better pictures?
Looks like it's a cud - involves the rim. I see an extended crack as well. I was a little worried it was just a giant blister. Nice find!!
Tip: there are tons of tips here on taking photos. It's very difficult to freehand pictures and often times you will take better photos of your fingerprints than the coin. Here is a quick setup that might help you going forward. Find the optimal distance and an object that set your phone's camera at that distance. The can I use is filled with coins to give it weight. Pressing the camera to the can steadies your shot. Less blur and you are able to fill the viewer with the coin to ensure focus.
I do not believe that is a cud. I don't want to state my reasons but look at it closely. Can you please gives us your input? Thanks @paddyman98
I don't see a listing or anything from 2020. Cuds on Coins may be interested in photos of your coin. Lincoln Cent Cuds; 2000 – Present : Cuds on Coins (cuds-on-coins.com)
I see similar Shield cents with breaks/cuds in that area, so as unusual as it looks, it looks like a cud. Check out the link I nested. OP's coin is a better example of anything recent.
I agree. Hoping our new member can supply us with them. I've not seen a cud on a Shield Cent until this. Looks like a sliver is missing from the hammer die. Most of the ones at Cuds look like chips by the rim with extended cracks. Seems to be typical of that location though which makes me wonder about positioning in the equipment.
Yes, it does. What has me a little confused is what the haze is around the Cud/break. Clearer pictures will help. Hopefully not cleaned.
I'm still not convinced that's a cud but I do see a definite die crack. I'm actually wondering if that's the strangest lamination I've ever seen. I'll have to wait and see what Paddy thinks.
Hang in there as Paddy is our resident error expert. I'd like to know what he thinks. It is different so hang onto it for now.
I'm very interested in what I see on the Cent. So strange. Some sort of Distorted Die Crack. There should be more that look like that in circulation. If not then it's something else. Alteration?
