Saw this just now a hard to see coin with an IGC 1856 AU 55 grading of some gold token in a stapled flip. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........
I read somewhere on CT that if it has a bear and does not have a denomination it is a fake Cali frac gold. Plus mine is pretty crude and you can see the plating wear. Bought 3 for a $1 as a novelty item.
I would suspect the ICG label is from a real California fractional and the (charm) and "California fractional style" indicated it was from one of the later issues and not the early circulating ones. And that label from a cracked out slab has now been used on a modern fantasy piece to try and sell it as a real one.
Yes, that is what i am learning, none of the originals had a bear, and they all had Dol, Doll, or Dollar if they were used as a currency, if it does not have it, its a token. I still love the certified coin in a cardboard flip!
Yes, not real. When you see only a fraction, and especially a bear, you are looking at something that Woolworth’s used to sell for $2 in the late 1960s.
