I just drooled on myself a 'lil So, so cool. Shame about the bend but on it's own an incredible find.
Dude i only dream of this.... Ive got the garrett at max so im going to see what it can do me.. How much gold have you found?
Now that's a great find, @galba68. Finding a piece of gold is certainly at or near the top of a detectorist's bucket list.
Omg that is a fantastic find bend or not. The bend does not affect the history this coin represents at all. Congrats!
Put it between 2 pieces of wood in a vice and squeeze it flat very slowly. Just a suggestion. Wait for other opinions first.
I have always heard stiff leather on wooden blocks that you very slowly crimp in a vice. I have done it on silver and bronze. Gold should be easier. You will never remove the waviness, but can mostly straighten it. If it could be a high dollar item maybe seek out a professional. Btw when I say slowly, I mean slowly. Like quarter a turn a day slow or slower.
Fan-Freaking-Tastic, @galba68. By way of seconding @ambr0zie and @spirityoda, you'd like to think, intuitively, that gold would be less scary to straighten out than silver or (Don't Do It!) billon.
This is the eight coin I found in that field and they were all bent..I think someone bent with some intention..
Looks like it might be a Ducado or Castellano gold coin of Ferninand and Isabella (Reyes Catholicos) of Spain. Yours has the S with two small circles above for the mint mark of Seville Spain. All around Seville were lots of the areas that I metal detected, it is loaded with stuff. After doing some more searching it is for sure a Ducat or in Spanish a Ducado from Seville. If you look close on your coin it even has DVCAVS for Ducat I believe. Here is one from Zaragoza with the mint mark C Or it could be this also. Zwolle, Netherlands, ducat, Albert and Isabel (1590-1597). (icollector.com) More information shows it to be the one I listed above it is a copy of one from Spain with the S mint mark for Seville. Here is a pic of one just like yours that sold on V coins. Spanish Netherlands, Philip II 1556-98, Ducat | Ancient Coins (vcoins.com) Spanish Netherlands, Philip II 1556-98, Ducat 3.40g "DVCATVS R.P. ZWOL. VALOR FERDI" Facing busts of Ferdinand and Isabella. Crowned and quartered arms "SVB VMARA.ALARVM.TVARIM"
