    Can I retire...?

Really though, got this in a box a few weeks ago, used it in a vending machine, and in my rounds getting all the quarters in the vending machines on campus (bank cut me off, gotta get my fix) it came back as change.

    Is it a sign? :troll:

Honestly, this is the most terrible plating I have ever seen. It doesn't even take your fingernail to scrape it off, it's absurd. Why go through the work for nothing? Do people really have nothing better to do? Get a job..!

It's safe to say you should probably find other vending machines on campus.

of course. I do have a rotation, next the change machine by the arcade is not safe.

Well, if you have any rest areas between Auburn and Orono, you might want to try those. I generally feel a lot less guilty about using the change machines at rest areas than those at a private business.

Work the machines...drive throughs...cashiers. I haven't CRHed in a long time now, but I still managed to generate a few hundred dollars a year in change to go through. Pocket finds...enough to sustain the eager enthusiast!!

I could. They are about 20 miles away but I am lazy. I might have to find a girlfriend to hire to help find quarters for me, and to schlep along

    Is that too unlikely?

    I'd find another bank.

yeah, but I haven't closed my account at the other one. I don't want 9 bank accounts!

If you're that desperate, 20 miles is nothing.

Edit: Although with your luck, all you'd likely receive would be a bunch of $1 coins.

Once you find a bank that suits your needs then you close your accounts. If they want a reason-give them the truth.

Go to the laundramats and car washes in your area. They usually
    have changers.

Back when the state quarter series came out the TV coin guys made a mint plating these state quarters and placing them in fancy packaging. I remember the TV ads like they were yesterday promising that if you paid the price up front, you would be GUARANTEED to get your gold plated quarters before they were gone. And you have to remember too that people were very excited about the state quarter series. Many numismatists were born out of that US mint offering.

yes, I have a full set of all the state quarters gold plated, and some westward journey nickels. my grandfather is a kook and bought all kinds of stuff from TV over the years. Including MS ASEs from TV. :(

I've considered selling them for my collection because they don't fit at all.. I see them as heresy. Or selling them and buying him a really nice gift. They just sit in my closet.

Well... I liken that to my son working all weekend at a flea market sweeping floors and emptying garbage. He worked hard that weekend. He did all that to buy me a beautiful set of Morgan dollars. And yes, they are quite fake. They even have copy on them..... that was 25 years ago and I still have them and never told my son they were bogus and that he worked that weekend for a set of garbage Morgan’s...... Hang on to them as a reminder of your grandads love and his effort to support your hobby. When he is gone there will come a day that you look back and smile at your grandads gift.

It's things like this that give me that warm fuzzy feeling.

Of course.... I'm very oddly sentiental with such things so sometimes I try to pretend I'm not. Hes given me a couple other goodies over the years, 2019 W ASE, 1909 half that resides in my type set, and helped me to get my first PCGS coin for my birthday in middle school.

I didn't mean to sound like, disrespectful? Its just one of those things where I wasn't sure if that would be crossing the line.
