Hello forum friends. Take a moment and look at my most recent purchase. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...75570&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1.

I can't speak highly enough about this seller. They had this coin listed as buy it now for 1795 or submit best offer. I decided to submit an offer in which I knew was a lowball of 1150, but had hoped that it would at least bring a counteroffer back. To my surprise, I received an email back within the hour saying that the offer was accepted, in which I paid immediately.

Within minutes I get an email from the seller that asked to be let out of the deal because they thought the offer read 1550 instead of 1150. I contemplated for a few minutes and thought what if I were on the wrong side of this deal would the seller let me out if I thought it read 795 instead of 1795 and clicked buy it now. So I decided to respond by saying that we made a legitmate deal and that I would expect him and his firm to honor that agreement.

Within minutes yet another email arrived to inform me that yes I was correct and that they would honor the purchase as it was their fault, and they hoped that I enjoyed the coin and would provided tracking information regarding shipment. All, this in a friendly and polite exchange.

Now I know many of you think that this may not be a big deal, as they should have honored it anyways, but I have to give credit where credit is due and they could have tried to make it bit harder a drag it out for days with little or no communication. This firm, as far as service goes, top notch. With that being said, I think I got a awesome coin at a great price as CDN Bid and Hertiage realized prices are at least $350 more

please note that the following is simply my opinion and is meant as such and not meant as a value judgement about anyone:

yes, i understand why you are feeling so good about your "deal". You recognized the value of the coin, otherwise you would not have "jumped" on it. The seller made a error of $400.00. As we all know errors will and do occur. It not so much that an error occurs but what one do to rectify an honest error that really matters. But what about when the shoe is on the other foot as you stated in your example. Although, i am a novice at coin collecting, i not a novice at ethics and honor(maybe because i am disable veteran and i have been dealing with a tramatic brain injury(tbi), which is why i am just getting into coin collecting. It has been part of my thearpy to help with my cognitive abilites. In the field of battle just as in life when times are tuff all one has is his/her ethics and honor. Which in my opinion, should have come first here. But such is life and each indivdual has to live with him or her self and the way they conduct themselves and their business. I guess the bottom line is that your walking away from this deal feeling like you did the "right". At least that is what i am getting from what you have written. Respectfully submitted, ljpitre

p.s. I use capital letters because of my difficulties, it is easier to type and see. Some spelling and context erros may occur. I beg your patients.ljp

ljpitre, I can't say that I disagree with your assesment, and please understand that this thread was not started with the intentions of bragging about a purchase made through a sellers error, but a thread that was started to brag about the good will, and intentions of a seller to garner more business in the future. In my opinion, it worked beacuse I am on here now mentioning how impressed I am in the way they handled it. Your post was taken graciously and had the amount in question been substantial in my opinion, my decision may have been different

I know there are a lot of good ebay sellers out there yet, and this guy is obviously one of them. I do a lot of bashing of ebay sellers, because there are a lot of dishonest and/or ignorant sellers out there making every ebay seller pay a little. My advice is if you find a worthwhile seller like this, patronize them. There aren't enough of them!!!

I have made a few mistakes selling on ebay, but I always have given the customer his deal, of course I'm talking about a few dollars. I just left a neutral for a seller that sent me a damaged fine coin, 1905 Indian cent, chin was gone, 3 major rim dings, 2 letters in Liberty. that was sold as AU. ( bad pictures, I trusted the seller ) The seller charged $4.95 shipping and it arrived in a first class envelope, then the seller did not want to refund shipping. I went through paypal and got a full refund, but still left a neutral. the seller was gusfirefly. I will be watching to see if the coin re-appears in their auctions as AU again.

I have trusted sellers with good seller ratings and bad/no pictures with mixed results. Usually high shipping costs are a good indication of an overgraded coin in my past experiences. Others try to offset low bids by charging excess shipping costs, not realizing most bidders factor that into their final bid anyway.

i have a seller who is charging me a enormous amount of shipping (althought the web site says they will combine shipping). I bought 25 or so items and it came in a small priority mail postal service box (i called the post office) for which the standard postage is $4.80. I have sent the seller emails and called the number posted on their bay site. None of my calls or emails are answered. Now after nearly 3 weeks(i sent email and called, left voice message numerous times prior to and again, friday aug.14,2009. A few hours after i contacted them again on friday(14th) i got numerous notices of invoices being shipped-no other answers to questions i had requested. The total of my purchases was about $45.00 or so. The postage total from the invoices, even thought they are supposed to combined postage after the fist full amount of postage---applied to fist invoice, about $6.95 they would add $1.00 for each addtional item. Ok, i did't like it, but i ageed to it. But even then the total postage is no were near $48.00+. Do you think i could get some assistance thru paypal since they will not return any of my contacts. I did not use the name of the seller because i did not know if it is accectable or even if this type of question is out of bounds. If it is i apologize. Someone just let me know. Anyone's help welcomed!!! Regards, ljpitre

i forgot to mention some of the coins in my order that i paid for are not in the box. While the list had check off's next to most of the items i purchased, some of the items on the invoice were not check off. turns out that the ones not check off are the ones that are missing from the shippment. sorry i left this out of the original post.ljpitre

For this kind of thing I would ask the seller to ship each item separately. ;)

I understand that you are posting this story to highlight the seller's good deed in following through with the deal even in light of their mistake, but when I read your story, I had to do a doubletake when you said you made the seller stick to the deal. I give big huge kudos to that seller for being professional about the whole transaction, that does say a lot for them. But I don't understand why you didn't do the same thing?

I buy a lot on Ebay and, had the seller simply not set a reserve and the coin sold for a really low price, that would be on the seller and I would expect them to go through with the deal (I once actually had a seller refuse to sell me a coin for this very reason). However, when the seller immediately notified you that they made a mistake, I would have understood and let them out of the deal, as I thought you were going to say you did.

As a bidder, haven't you ever entered an extra digit by accident when you placed a bid as you mentioned in your scenario? I have, and I immediately notified the seller that I made a typo, and they quickly cancelled my bid for me. Mistakes do happen, and particularly when they are caught quickly, I feel we all (both buyer and seller) should do the right thing, instead of trying to get a great deal. Because if it hasn't happened already, the shoe WILL be on the other foot and you will be grateful that the other side doesn't take advantage of your mistake.

if you request separate shipping of each item or invoice of items the shipping would be even more. Any other help would be helpful. Regards and thanks, ljp

    Regarding the OP,

I can understand what the dealer must have been going through. It seems to me that as soon as he said the made a mistake maybe negotiate something in the middle or let them out of it. They have to make a living and probably lost money on this.

That's just my thinking, what you did is not necessarily wrong and if the dealer would have been a jerk about it he probably deserved it but they were not and probably deserve a little better.

Crusty, before placing the offer i checked his feedback, current auctions, and website. After reviewing, I believe the difference was a mere drop in the bucket. ie listing 200 1 oz krugerrands as well as many other $50,000 + items

the seller's goes by a numbers of names.THEY HAVE AT LEAST TWO EBAY STORE NAMES THAT I HAVE COME ACROSS. The one i have purchsed the most from is USCOINSTORE.NET, from idaho with payment going to p.c.i in idaho.....is where the items are shipped from. According to another ebay site i came accross they are in the process of opening yet another store under another name. However, because of the volume of transactions they have their rating is still a 99+ rating. if anyone is interested in the other names, i will get the additional names out of my folder for whomever is interested. Their ebay website states that they want to resolve any issues before rating time.however that is not consistent with their actions. Any more commets appreciated. I REALLY ONLY WANT WHAT I PAID FOR AND AT THE QUOATED SHIPPING COST. I REALIZED THAT SOME SELLERS HELP COVER THEIR OVERHEAD WITH THE HANDLING PART OF THE S/H BUT THESE GUYS GO OVERBOAD, WHEN THEY DO NOT FOLLOW THEIR OWN RULES!!regards, larry

What goes around comes around. While I can understand you lauding the seller for his profesionalism I cannot condone the action that you took.
