http://www.usatoday.com/news/offbeat/2007-10-27-coins-pa_N.htm happened in 2007 Makes me want to tear the walls down in my 1865 house.
Take a metal detector and go around the walls I am sure that many coins would send s different signal than just nails or wiring.
"He was dragging a bag of old coins down the steps when he noticed the hole in an upstairs wall." Why would you drag a bag of coins?
It is amazing how coins appear to be all around us. Last Saturday morning I was coming home from work. At an intersection I have to turn was a sign for a garage sale. On the top of that sign was another sign that said coins. So I drove over to see what they had. It was all Central and South American both coins and paper money. Just by looking it all appeared to be in excellent condition. Problem is I know absolutely nothing about this type of coinage or currency. I wished them luck selling it and left. I wondered when I left had anyone ever gone to an older residential section of a city and just gone door-to-door to see if anyone had old coins they would want to sell. I know coin buyers used to set up at a grocery or drugstore in some small towns to buy coins from people after they had run an ad in the local paper for a few days. I know the internet "killed" all or almost all of that, but some people have old coins they never think about unless specifically reminded.
My dentist's family ran several chinese markets in this area from the 30s to the 80s. They originally tossed every silver dollar into a empty clean 5gal lard container. When it got filled, they hid it and started another. The dentist is the last child of the family, and he tells me there are suppose to be 5 containers of silver coins, however he only knows the location of 1, the last one. I begged to be able to look at them, but he said after he finds the others (no). He searched through the properties, but no luck. He doesn't want to sell the property until he is sure the coins aren't buried someplace. He did let me look at his late wife's "golden dowery belt" made of gold filagree and close to 50 $5 and $10 liberty gold pieces ( all soldered to the belt). Wish I had taken a photo. He wished she had had a larger waist then Jim
So the question is, does the dentist have any kids to leave it to? If not someone should get on his good side as it look like he will live there the rest of his life looking for it.
We all wish it was us that found them but at least someone found them. :thumb: Great story and thanks for sharing it with us. hya: Ribbit
