Changes to the eBay User Agreement
Dear eBay Community Member,
I'm writing to let you know that the we've posted an updated eBay User Agreement to help us implement some policy changes. This agreement is effective immediately for new members registering on or after today, and on September 22, 2009, for current members.
The biggest change to the agreement covers our updated, expanded and renamed eBay Buyer Protection. eBay Buyer Protection offers coverage for more buyers and allows eBay to deduct amounts due to buyers under the program from seller PayPal accounts. If sellers don't have sufficient funds in their PayPal accounts, sellers will be asked to provide an alternate payment method. We've moved the bulk of the program details to the eBay Buyer Protection Policy, referenced in the User Agreement. For more information, you can review the Seller Release details announced July 27, 2009.
As with earlier updates to the User Agreement, we've made other minor changes to reflect eBay's current product and service offerings and industry legal standards. For example, we've made a few changes to the way we describe use of our catalog content.
You don't need to take any further action to accept the new User Agreement. If you don't wish to accept the new User Agreement, please refer to this Help page for instructions on how to close your account. We hope you find that these changes make eBay more useful for you.
Thanks for being a part of the eBay community!
Sincerely,

Wait a minute, are they seriously saying that a seller must have money in their paypal account? What purpose does that serve? I guess I'm not selling anymore

It's unfortunate eBay is not a seller friendly site never will be it's a site for buyers and as long as the buyers stay they can do whatever they want to sellers. I'm sure the next step is to charge sellers a monthly membership fee. I'm taking notes on what not to do CoinSpace Auctions will be there for those who need an alternate without all the hassles. :thumb:

Grbose: It's funny that you pop up in all these threads, topics, instances... you're gonna bank big! I love watching your careful steering of the crowd over to your site! LOL! Best of luck to you. These things take time before they gather enough momentum and word of mouth activity. I've checked out your site, just haven't gotten started. Maybe someday you can buy an ad with your CT credits. :eek:hya:

I'm just curious why this is so bad? It seems like it is just the PayPal Buyers Protection only expanded to the whole site and all forms of payment.

LOL Sorry everyone I do love this forum I've been on a lot of them and this one is hands down the best most take it serious and provide great information and I truly want to help all the disgruntled sellers I was one of them and everytime I see a negative eBay thread I know exactly what the sellers are going through and yes as soon as I can scrape up some cash and or earn enough points I will buy some ads and pay Peter back for the shameless plugs. :thumb:

I agree with you there.

We have all these anti-ebay threads and yet everyone is drawn there like moths to fire.

It's clear Ebay is moving away from the "garage sale" mentality. It will be harder and harder to make it worthwhile cleaning out your basement.

At some point, more and more people will cut the umbilical cord that attaches them to ebay and then other sites will draw new members.

It'll happen. Ebay is making sure of that - like it or not.

The reason they are doing this is because e bay/paypal is getting stuck with the bill.
For example I bought an indian head cent and after paying, the seller canceled his account and I have no coin.Apparently I am not the only one this happened to.
I have an active claim on this.Still waiting for a resolution.

Ebay has been making some real lame decisions lately-I guess there trying to drive away sellers. I don't have a real big gripe with this particular policy change-but I see their also going to make optional or required insurance on auctions unavailable to sellers next month as well, which means as a seller you either have to pick up the cost yourself or add it in with the shipping/packaging cost and hope buyers won't dock you on your feedback as a result of increased shipping costs-oh and if they do give you low marks as a result well you lose your discount and Ebay reserves the right to limit your future selling because people are complaining about shipping costs. I'll give a plub for Ebid.net here- while they have no where near the amount of buyers as Ebay they are much much more seller friendly-no listing fees, no finale value fees, no Paypal required. If only more people shopped there I'd switch everything over to there site and say so long Ebay as a seller. So lets hear more shameless plugs for alternate auction sites I know I'd never heard of CoinSpace before and will check them out.

Since Ebay has switched and removed Money orders as a way I can pay, I haven't used it much, but I do still find good deals on there. As long as sellers keep listing on Ebay, the buyers will be there to bid it up!
As a side note - it seems like some items on Ebay are going cheaper these days - I picked up a laptop for under $200. It should get here any day and I'll know better what I got, but from the spec' it is the same model as the one I bought new from Dell - it does have more RAM and some other stuff are upgraded...the good part is that I paid almost$700 to dell.

I never sold on ebay, only bought, and I stopped doing that when they made paypal mandatory. With all the changes I've been reading about, I'm glad I don't use ebay anymore for anything. Somehow I get the feeling that all the changes and fees will one day bite ebay in the butt! :headbang:

I always ask a seller if they will accept a US Postal Money Order, as I don't have a Paypal account yet. The good sellers say yes, and they are the ones that get my business.

I still sell on e-bay but the fees are really getting up there. The changes suck but where else can you get a viewing audience the size of fee-bay?
