I personally don't like this particular coin due to the marks that appear to be on it, esp. in the fields of the obverse. not worth my money.

but do you think for me, krispy, this would be a coin worth getting at this price if i can get it for 350?

The PCGS one is much better than the raw one.

tell us what you think, why do you trust strangers so much with your money, why not give your cash to anyone on this list and take whatever they send you back. it's really silly. slow the heck down.

The PCGS coin to me seems either it has a dirty slab or the coin was improperly washed with acetone, you can see on the obverse at 4 o'clock and reverse 9 o'clock.

Without seeing the coin in hand it is hard to say though.

But would PCGS grade a cleaned coin anyway?

Sometimes yes......it may be net graded due to market acceptability.

This is why you have to understand coin grades before you buy a graded coin. Why dont you visit the FAQ page of the PCGS website and read up about this. TPGs certainly can miss a factor and misgrade a coin and the next person you try to sell this to might catch it and tell you what it's really worth, plus deduct costs in their offer if they are a coin dealer who will plan to resell the coin, if they even like the coin with those marks on it enough to make an offer. You have a lot of factors standing in your way of making good on this investment, but at least for you a slabbed coin might minimize some of the risks associated. DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST.

Just remember this. If you win an auction, you were the person willing to pay the most for that item on that day. Trust me when I tell you this, others interested in that item might or should also know it is available.

There are a lot of people on here telling you to take your foot off the gas, and personally, I cannot help myself from watching the crash.

Heh, it sounds like some are almost dooming failure on me.. Let's give this a try. I'm willing to take the risk with my money and that's that. Please, respect that guys...

I understand it is your risk, if you really want to minimize the risk into an investment, I think bullion is a more sound option for you. My opinion is free, just like your option to take it or leave it.

I'm still going to watch, contrary to your belief, I do not wish failure on you.

With the 1928, I would pass an unslabbed one at this stage. Many 1928-S were made into 1928. I have seen 2 and I am sure the dollar guys have seen more. A nice PCGS or NCG 1928 would fit into the category of coins you were interested in.

Probably even more of a question that hasn't been raised ( and has been the subject of many threads) is what pricing guide/idea are you using for your bidding. If it is auction results or CDN then you are probably within a normal range. And of course what others say about losing some money in the long range is possible if the #$#@ ( curse jar) hits the fan even more so in the world. Coins like the ones that have been mentioned probably have much less low side risk than the modern bullion products and a good chance at increased value. If the slabbed 55DDO, 09SVDB,14-D lincolns, 3Lbuffalo,1928 Peace lose significant value, even those of us who think we know how to pick coins will see our more common ones decrease even more so, IMO.

I am happy for you that you have the money to be able to buy a nice coin or 2. You just need to get one that is properly authenticated/ graded/ and priced that you like.

Thanks Jim. Hopefully by next week I'll have made a few decisions that I can share in picture format with the board. :)

You could buy an entire set of NGC graded Proof 69 Ultra Cameo American Silver Eagle Proofs for about $1500. They are large, beautiful, and pure silver. I think there's a pretty good market for them. Uncirculated ASEs would be significantly cheaper, but much less beautiful in my opinion. Still a good bullion buy though....

    Have fun!

I'm very wary of any large silver bar by any maker...who's to say it hasn't been drilled out and filled with lead? Very easy to do, and you don't know it til it's refined and assayed.

I agree with what most of the members have been telling you - you have no business in buying coins at this time. I also watch as you take advice from some members and not others - to tell you the truth, there are some members here that I wouldn't send a wheat-cent worth $1.00 to without making sure the check was good first. And there are others that I would send a $1000.00 to without any money sent.

You don't know the members, and to tell you the truth, you don't know coins.
If you have decided that you want that 1928 Peace dollar then let me ask you a question....how did you come up with the ammount to offer the seller?
Did you just pull a number out of the air?
Did you research what past 1928 peace dollars have sold for?
Did you do a search on HA.com for a going price?
Did you even check the RED Book or the PCGS Price Guide?

Also, I saw that you said you will only buy PCGS graded coins - why?
There are alot of coins graded by NGC, ANACS, ICG, PCI, DGS that are just as good, and in most cases you will get them for a lower price....why you ask?...because there are alot of nuts out there just buying coins without doing research, and knowledge. They have this hole-in-the-head mindset that PCGS is KING and if you don't buy PCGS then your coins are junk. This is the farthest thing from the truth.

By the way - alot of people think Land is a better investment - and it just so happens that I have a 2 pieces for sale.

Yes, yes, no, yes to your questions and to PCGS, I feel comfortable with the brand.

Thanks for your advice, but we'll see if this risk pays off.

Don't know you, don't need to know you but you need to seriously get over yourself and for once LISTEN to the advice you have been given here on slowing down. You have come here and from the first post wanted everyone to give you a "list".

Ebay, do you know what the percentage of fake coins being sold right now on ebay is? I think the % would knock you over. Do you know when looking at ebay if a coin is fake, cleaned, altered? Me neither.

Do not poo-poo the advise that is being given to you because you are a novice wheter you want to be called that or not.

Good luck and you are an accident about to happen and we can't turn our eyes away.
