I agree with Freezerburn, based on the photos,no. Please post your photos when the coin arrives, the ebay ones seemed very flat for the grade. Jim
Are we talking about the 1916 Barber dime for under $10 . I 'd say by the pics it's hard to say the value of the coin , it's definately worth more than $10 . rzage
do they counterfeit this year coin.It looks like it was minted yesterday. It appears to have no wear at all
The coin's photos do not show the true color of the coin, IMO they are trying to cover up the cleaning. I would say the coin was nice AU details, if I had to guess. Please post some pics, once you get it in.
You know, I did not catch the country of origin on this one, but who knows anymore dealing w/ E-Bay. The Chinese counterfeit so many coins, it makes me sick! I would think E-Bay would have some kind of dept. to investigate these slimeball tactics and put an end to them. If it where up to me, I would not let anymore transactions come out of China until this stuff is settled. You would think that E-Bay being the company it is, would try harder to stop it, but money talks and bullshi. walks. Right? I used to sell on there, but got sick of the fees. Before I called it quits, I did get a chance to turn in some douchbag for trying to sell a counterfeit 1909S VDB out of that country. The bidding was up to $725.00, an was stopped in the middle of the bid. I hope I made somebody mad! The good thing is I stopped some poor guy from being ripped off:computer:
I would not grade this coin above VF20. Perhaps it is the photo, perhaps it is the way it looks on my PC and perhaps it is my eyes but the detail just isn't there. LIBERTY looks incomplete. Leaves and hair look too worn for it to be graded higher. It is not a bad looking coin and for the money not a bad deal. I just don't think it's worth more than what was bid. JMHO
I'd give it a solid XF-40 -45 , probably cleaned but really can't tell , I think $10 incuding shipping is a real deal , but like T$ would love to see some better pics . rzage
Something about the rim in the photos looks really, really fake. It just looks too sharp, as light it glinting off the edges where it should be smooth, even in a high grade. It's just the edge that bothers me but the color overall looks off too, cleaned? probably. lighting in the photos? diffuse natural light and flat at that.
Looks good, I think you did well, I do not deal with ebay but if when you get it, it matches what you saw in the photos I do not think you will kick.
Nothing about the coin makes me think it is counterfeit. It looks like a cleaned AU example to me. I'm guessing it's a $15 to $20 coin, as such. For anyone who thinks the coin is only a VF (or XF), here is a PCGS VF 30, which you should be able to see has considerably less detail:
Seller is from the US , But like you said the Chinese fake everything n and on Ebay it's buy at your own risk . rzage:whistle:
I'm still not understanding where the VF argument is even coming from. I don't study barbers, not good with them, but I will say that coin is not a VF example, even if liberty isn't as bold as a regular EF/AU example. The details are good enough for a EF/AU grade, and I suspect from the pictures that it has been cleaned, but once again for grading and determining the cleaning if any, better picture will be needed
I agree , I said EF-40-45 Only going by the Liberty which is a little weak , the rest of the coin shows at least AU qualities , the only real question is whether it has been cleaned , I know I'd pay $10-$20 for it just to put in my wall mounted 20th century coin set . rzage
I am making the VF claim strictly on how I am seeing the coin on my PC. Again, maybe it's the photo, or the way it looks on the screen. Maybe it's my eyes, which aren't so good. I look forward to hearing (and seeing if possible) what this coin actually looks in hand. As I see it it looks VF to me and not worth more than what was bid. I look forward to being proven wrong.
without a doubt that Barber dime has AU details and is worth $15-$20 I'd guess in it's present condition. if it wasn't cleaned and got into an AU slab, it would be a $50-$75 coin.
