Hello again everyone, Markers line up and are present for DDO-001 but coin has so many other anomalies like marks in front of Lincoln's face and mouth along with extra bar above Lincoln's head in memorial on reverse. Need help trying to find the correct variety if it is a DDO that is. THANKS
When you upload pictures it makes it easier if you choose Full Size instead of Thumbnail for the pictures. Then I only need to scroll
I looked and looked . I'm not seeing any doubling . I actually see closely a lot of scratches, evident of harsh cleaning .
Thanks for the info everyone. I wasn't aware and thanks for advise Lueds and will load further pics to scroll so it's easier for everyone.
Die polish lines are raised on the coin. A harsh cleaning, the lines will be scratched into the coins surface.
My next hurdle: When the lines are so "fine" and almost microscopic, how do you know if they're raised of incused? I can't tell from the photos. Hats off you guys.
Usually if the lines are from cleaning they will also show on the devices. If they're die polishing lines, they only show on the fields of the coin
OK, interesting. I see. May I ask two follow-up questions? 1. The die polishing lines don't show on the devices because those areas are incused on the die and not subject to polishing. Is this inference correct? 2. Are die polishing lines disregarded by the TPGs or do they adversely affect the grades? Thank you!!!
They still can be, there are Kennedy halves which have a 'bald spot' so yes it happens, but it's easier to see on the most level areas of the coin. There are good examples in this thread on the Collectors Universe forums. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1000526/who-likes-die-polish-lines
I think it'll still be a challenge for me to easily differentiate between the two (cleaning vs. die polishing lines). Takes much more experience I suppose.
