Bought one on Tuesday night and it shipped Wednesday morning. I was shocked that it shipped so quickly! Anyway, I really just bought it for the copper cents, probably like most people, but do you think the whole set will be worth anything, or is it just a novelty item that will lose popularity and value after the "Lincoln craze" is over? (P.S. anyone have mintage figures?)
I got my 3 set's a couple of weeks ago,I subscribe for 3 silver proof sets every year,Only time will tell if they will go up in value ! :goofer:
look for posts by elaine_1970, there are scores of threads with mintage figures, just use the search tool to find them
I bought a proof set for 3 different reasons. Number one reason is the penny proof set. Number two is b/c it has a silver quarters one of which is Duke Ellington and I support jazz and almost everything that goes with it. Next and last reason is b/c of the silver Kennedy proof, dime, nickel and the president coins. Oh besides, it's my first proof set ever!!
I bought two silver sets at the Los Angeles ANA for my only purchases of the show. I dislike going home empty handed. Who knows what the future value will be? Not me.
I bought a silver proof set and a regular proof set from the Mint at the ANA show in L.A., would have bought a mint set as well if they were out yet, but they told me another couple of months for that set. at least i didn't have to pay shipping by buying at the show though
I get a silver set each year to break apart for my Dansco Moderns collection. Got an extra this year because of the cents and the Territories quarters. Just think two complete sets with just one year's purchases.
I bought a 2009 silver set and am in the process of exchanging it for a better one. I think this 2009 set is a sure winner. The four Lincoln cents, only done this year, naturally. The territorrial quarters only done this year adds to it. And the new Native American(Sacagawea) Dollar first year reverse design changed. Plus the Presidential dollar coins are unique because these particular five presidents will only be done for this year only. This is my humble opinion. zeke
nope, haven't bought it yet. (don't plan to) But..... If you want the value to go down, I'll buy one. That is what happens everytime I buy a new proof set.
I got some...I really like the silver dime and half. $52.95 is a bit steep for that, though. I don't like having to buy a bunch of other coins I don't want. Next time, I'll probably buy just the coins I want on eBay...after they've been slabbed. I'm saving up for the 2009 Mint sets coming out this Fall. I might double up on those. With all the hype about the 2009 nickels and dimes...they should sell pretty well.
2009 Silver Proof Set I have to agree that the cost this year was steep for the silver proof set. Granted a lot more coins came with the set but most of them were not silver. So it's a leading misleading to call it a silver set when a majority of the coins are not silver. However since I only buy it once a year and only 1 set it's not too much of a hardship. I just hope it's not going to be this price or higher going forward.
I got a set from the mint and am so impressed with the silver proof quarters and the Presidents that I'm going to complete a set of each. The Sac reverse is nice and I like the cents as well. I'm not interested in doing any sets of the other proof coins in the set. I am also working on a complete set of the ASE proofs and have already ordered the pricie$t ones, '93-'97. I love cameo proofs! Or, black and whites as I like to call them. I will be displaying them all on the wall in the mint holders. No slabs for me. LOL
I bought 5 sets of the clad proof sets and 3 sets of the silver proof sets. As many have stated, I was really impressed with the standard issue coinage (nickel, dime, half, and sac), the presidential dollars, and the silver quarters. I got great pennies in the clad proof set but the silver set had some small issues (white spotting). In all, I was pleased though.
You guys really think the price is steep? I thought it was probably about right. You have to figure the quarters, half and dime add up to 1.51 oz. of silver to begin with. The bullion value of the silver is worth $22.21 today alone. That's almost half of the price by itself. Then you've got $5 face value alone in dollar coins. There's 27.21. The cent sets have been selling for 15-16 bucks on ebay. There's 43.00. The minting and the packaging process has to be worth something. All in all, I think it's a fair price. You gotta figure, $52 isn't worth what it was in 1990, or 1980. Not by a long shot. I don't own a set yet but I will own at least one before the year's out. I don't normally collect them but this year is a really neat year with the final territory quarters and the special Lincolns. I'd say they have a decent chance of going up in value as the years go by. A better chance than most years.
