I was just checking eBay, and I see the 2009 LP-1 sets are back up to near $100. Anyone rethinking about selling?
I don't feel burned, but I'm not happy with the way it turned out. I missed the LP1s so I figured I'd buy 5 sets of the LP2s and maybe swap a couple of them for LP1 mint rolls. That turned out to be like trying to trade pennies for quarters. So I'm stuck with them. They'll retain at least their original value, true, but I would have much preferred to spend that dough on something else. It's not a lot relatively speaking but the feeling that I was "suckered in" makes it seem like a whole lot more.
Elaine, Yes I have 2 orders of 5 each and might have one other person order another 5 sets. I figure they will at least retain the purchase value. And hope they will go up in value. Bill
Probably not, but I may get in on the 8/26 release, 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Proof Set. So what about you elaine? are you buying LP3? and how many?
no. not for LP3, 4 pc lincoln cent proof set or 5 pc chronicle set. i will concentrate on virgin islands and northern mariana instead.
anyone bought lincoln set at $18.95 from the dealers will get burn. now the mint sell 4 pc lincoln proof cent at $7.95 with box and c.o.a. question.... why the mint sell it cheap?. maybe many of the proof cent have a problem. be careful.....
Did you buy any? for 18.95? Cheap... price still sounds like Mint makes a profit. Official Pres. $1 Coin Albums release today, 'search' has been disabled on the Mint site, maybe they feel the traffic will move the Lincoln cent sets at a lower cost.
no. i will not buy that high. $18.95/set. but for $7.95. i will buy some. by the way, the LP3 sold 152,146 set. it look like cent is the most popular now.
OK, so you were 'suckered in' by the mint to spend a grand total of $50 on a product that you could resell at any time for your original investment? Am I missing something?
I don't think anyone has gotten burnt to the point they did not make atleast the $8.95 plus shipping back, and I am sure they were looking for that $100 mark but the mint stoped that, they just put out over 300 thousand, and I am sure the mint is going to put out how ever many for the LP3's and 4's also....
Yup, got 5 on order and will order another 5. I'll open at least 5 of the boxes and see what errors there might be. If significant, I may open the next 5. Who knows?
so does this still hold true? I think alot of people that listened to this advice and didn't buy these sets are kicking themselves seeing they are going for over $100 a pop... just my view and e-bay completed auctions are my proof
Only that if I knew they were going to flood the market with LP2s I would have an extra $30 in my pocket right now. Like I said, it's not going to break me, it's just the principle. Many of us were led to believe one thing and they turned around and did the exact opposite. You never know what the mint is going to do, though, so I blame myself. .... So there were roughly 100k LP1 sets, 300k LP2 sets and already 150k LP3 sets sold. I can't wait to see the final numbers for LP3. I'm thinking after they got caught with their pants down on LP1 and demand was higher than they predicted, they'll go to 300,000 on all LP2, LP3 and LP4 sets. For awhile I thought they were following some sort of complicated strategy. Sometimes I give them too much credit.
I don't know anything about ordering from the mint what sets are you all talking about? how do you find out about them?
