Hello everyone. First post here and brand new to the hobby. Excited to learn more. Was looking through some of my coins and came across this 1937 example. Searched extensively for similar possible errors/variants but could not find any. Any ideas would be appreciated. My apologies if this is much ado about nothing. Still learning. :)

The coin is damaged. It took a hit there sometime between 1937 and 2021.

Welcome to CoinTalk. As already stated, it is PMD Post Mint damaged. Something hit it in its 80 plus years in circulation.

    Welcome to the neighborhood, Paul!

Learning how to spot errors is a very tedious chore. First, you need to learn how coins are made. This will help you to determine whether a coin is a true error or if it is just damaged while in circulation. There are limited ways that true errors can occur, but there are tens of thousands of ways that coins can be damaged, whether accidentally or intentionally, while in circulation.
