    Hey everyone,

I went to an estate sale today and picked up a few really nice 1964 Washington quarters and would like your opinion on them. These pictures don't really do them justice as I spent about 2 hours trying to get good ones but am just an amateur, sorry:)
The obverse of the first quarter is pretty much white with some dark toning on the right side, but the reverse is very shiney with great rainbow toning. Second quarter has great toning on both sides with the only big problems I see is a few bag marks on the right sode of the obverse and a slight one on his neck.
The main focal areas all appear to be blemish free. The reverse of both coins appears to have very good details but showing slight wear on the breast feathers but they are still visible with the naked eye.

Also it appears that there are a few different versions of the reverse on these, with Type B and Type C Proof and Clad reverses. Does anyone know where I can find more info and preferably some pictures on these, I can't seem to find any info anywhere...

Oh and in case you are wondering I got these 2 quarters and a 1999 silver proof set for $198. $192 for the proof set and $3 each for the quarters. Did I do ok?

    THANKS!
    J

I do not know what silver proof sets are going for, but you did good on the quarters, they look real nice in your photos.

Was someone bidding against you on the proof set, or did they just start it at that point?

If the proof set is pristine with no hint of haze or toning, you did well! Love the quarters! Would like to see the proof set.

I'm working on a complete set of silver proof state quarters and presently looking at 1999 sets. Problem free sets take a little digging to find...even on eBay, and most are well over $200.

Thanks! The 1999 silver proof sets all seem to sell for over $200, this set was actually marked at $275 but I showed up on day 2 of the estate sale and got it for 30% off, hence the strange price. Also the 1964 quarters were $4 each with 30% off as well.

Well I can't say it is "pristine", but it looks pretty good. There is the beginning stages of some haze/toning on both sides but more on the reverse, most noticable on the Georgia quarter as the leaves are turning a nice gold color. I guess it may hurt the grade or appeal for some folks a bit but I am growing very fond of toned coins, so I kinda like it:)

Here are some pics, i was able to crack open the case pretty easily so at least the pics are not through the plastic, but they are so shiney it is hard to get good pics, although i didn't put as much effort into these:)

As far as the 64's go, any thoughts on the grade? I would really like opinions as I am considering sending them in to be graded as part of my free grading submissions!
    THANKS!

I would say that you did fairly well on the prices! It appears that the 1964-P Quarters will average out at MS-64 or MS-65, although some may grade higher. That equates to about $13 to $20 each respectively valuewise. However, since there were so many 1964-P Quarters minted, it is hard to get much more than the $4 each that you paid for them! Make sure to check the 1999-S Proof Cent to see if the "A" & "M" in AMERICA are close together, as you may a fairly valuable "Close AM" Variety Proof Cent. You might post some pictures of the Obverse and Reverse of the Cent and we can check it for you.

The 1964 quarters are nice, but still 10 to 12 X face.
    So, you did okay.
