eBay Urges

Have you ever had an urge, against all logic, to buy something on eBay? That happened to me tonight. Lately, I just watch auctions as they close and marvel an the ridiculous amounts people bid.

Tonight, I was watching as some "apparently" nice Unc rolls were finding new homes. The seller is someone I think of as "questionable". They have a 99.6% rating and (to me) anything below 99.8% is "questionable". I reviewed the feedback and got the impression that their rolls may not be "OBW".

Anyway, I was just a spectator...until the URGE hit! There was an Unc roll of 1948-S cents and I didn't have that date roll in my collection so I threw a bid out and got it for $215. Lol...$228 with tax!!!

Ridiculous, I know...but I had the URGE!!! Here are the pics. When the roll arrives, I'll have a Big Reveal...and we'll all see what's really inside this "OBW" roll. :D

    Vertigo Did someone say bust?

Yea interested to see. I've watched YouTube videos of people who opened dollar rolls they'd bought. I can't believe what some people will pay for some of them. Hopefully you do good with this one.

I saw the listing, I will say this, for what he's selling, these type of listings, he has a 14 day money back return policy, and seller pays the shipping. I think as long as everything is at least MS63 RB you will make out OK on the purchase. You just gotta at least make $4.56 per coin to break even. hahahaha

I personally hate these kind of listings, I Soooooo want to know what's in there, but it's a gamble still. that's my problem with them, the gamble feeling of it.

he's got a good return policy though, and IF it's not as described as "THIS IS AN UNOPENED UNCIRCULATED ORIGINAL BANK WRAPPED ROLL" return it on his dime for a full refund.

Most of these ebay vendors won't have a return policy like that. I wish you the best of luck!

Actually, he might not take returns if you've opened the roll. I have seen sellers say that. But if you read the policies, and he does accept them after you open the roll, then that's a really nice return policy.

Either way it goes, I don't think it's appropriate to "out" the Seller on CT...not my intention. The problem with these types of auctions is...

    1. You never know if these are really OBW rolls vs. prepped rolls with choice end coins and junk in the middle.

    2. At least some of the "value" is having an unopened roll...for resale at some future date. Opening the roll reduces some of the "value".

    3. Some Sellers have a generous return policy "provided the rolls remain unopened". That's quite a Catch-22.

I've always wanted to crack one of these rolls to know for sure. I don't intend on wasting my time with returns. I'll just chalk this up to "Tuition in the School of Hard Knocks"...from which I already have multiple degrees.

The only way I can justify this is by posting the results so everyone can share the experience. This is totally unbiased. I don't know the Seller and I've never bought from this Seller (that I know of). I just had the URGE to do it. :D I've never done a YouTube video so I'll probably just post phone pics before and after.

That was my point on his return policy though, he doesn't have the "provided the rolls remain unopened" disclaimer that most of them do which is a big plus. He's selling it as a OBW 1948S roll.....

the enders look pretty nice though, I'd expect the protected coins to look at least as good, so I'm with ya on wanting to crack it and see the insides! mannn I can't wait for you to post the results actually. I'm already speculating that this one is legit I owuld think if it was questionable, the seller would have put it as "returns only in original packaging, unopened.

I think I'm as excited as you are to see what's under that wrapper! :)

have you seen the bidding wars for rolls with uncirculated V.D.B enders its so funny they actually think it might be an 09's on the other side.

I suspect that USPS "economy shipping" may take a while. :( This can also be a test of the USPS...post election.

Please post the results here. Or update this thread with a link. Both enders look really nice and have the same tones. But.....
That's a lot of dough spent on a gamble. Good Luck.
This coin gets real pricey at 67+
Here's the link to coinfacts, only because they have a 38D Buffalo as a top pop on the page.

If I get a roll of MS-63s without carbon spots, I'll be happy. Wouldn't it be cool if it really is an OBW roll and we discover a new variety?! 1948-S/D :woot:
