I just picked up one of the 2021 1oz Silver Britannia’s after hearing about the new security features and personally I think it’s awesome. The more security features the better! Especially with all the Chinese fakes. I saw a guy walk into the coin shop I go to locally with a 1 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo only for it to be XRFed and determined to be a fake with 40% gold. Poor guy paid $1700 for it. If you don’t know what the new security features are they are: - waves in the background that ripple when turned under a light. - a padlock that turns into a trident when turned in the light. - microetching of “decus et tutamen” (translation: “An ornament and a safeguard”). - distinct lines in the Union Jack flag. - a few others I can’t remember. Here is a pic of my older 2015 Britannia and the new 2021 Britannia. note: the gold ones have the same security features.
The more the better for sure. I prefer textured fields like that as well, they just have a better look to them and adds a little more to the design
I like em to pricy though I think I can wait a couple of months or so and snag a good deal on the bay.
Agreed. I can’t even tell you how many people I’ve seen online who have been scammed by both raw & fake slabbed American Silver Eagles and they’re paying full price for these fakes unknowingly. The more security features the safer people feel in doing transactions knowing they’re getting the real thing and counterfeiters will have serious troubles faking the new ones and will probably keep faking the older ones. What do you think does the ASE need a makeover too?
Definitely you will. Or wait for a JM Bullion sale. I only bought 1 because they’re pretty expensive as you said but I wanted just 1 example just like I bought 1x 2021 ASE. I also got 2x of these South Korean phoenixes which I think look pretty sweet!
Its getting a new reverse in a couple months but I would like to see some textured fields on it. With everyone else moving towards that it looks a bit bland without them.
I agree, textured fields add a lot more character to the look of a coin. Some countries and mints have been doing it for a long time and others are now catching on. Here is an example from Trinidad and Tobago 1972
