I vote MS63. Photos aren't the best for grading, 63PL or MS64 wouldn't surprise me either. Don't know VAMs, no guess there.
The die chip on the nostril does lean towards VAM-2 , but that also should have the double "LIBERTY" as I figure you have read, and I can't really see it in the photo. Could be , I just can't see it. Also the CC should be almost completely filled with die chips, and the angle of the reflection makes it hard to be sure. The Doubled Liberty ( The T seems to be the most revealing doubling) would make it easier to place. Probably grade 63 or 64 depending on the TPG. Jim
Nice Morgan, and congrats on your first CC! A little hard to tell from the pics but I would say MS64, I would say it's the VAM 2 too.
Hey goldstone, The pics aint that bad. Here is what I do. Get two bendy neck halogen lamps, these are very bright, and will show enough details and make the coin show its true color and luster. Put them in a 10 and 2 o'clock position, this position has worked best for me. I also put the coin on a black easel, BUT laying it flat can work to. If you are going to lay the coin flat, than the bendy neck lamps aren't neccesary, and you can try other sorts of lamps. ALSO, put a white sheet of paper behind it, to set the white balance, and if it is "off" a little, just adjust it, till' you get the right shade of white. I say MS64, congrats
Great guesses! Thanks everyone it is MS63, though my dealer told me if I wanted to, to crack it open and re-submit it. He said he thinks it was graded below its actual grade..but I still got it for MS63 Money ($260.00)
Very nice coin. $160 is MS-63 money???? Has the value on these declined that much? I thought it would be worth close to twice that. Terrific Score!! edit: this one just sold for twice that on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/1878-CC-Morgan-...dual?hash=item2555b4ec85&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 PM me the name of your dealer, I want to buy from him.
I looked at all the pics and gave it a 64, very good buy, dont lose that dealer. I am still looking for a hard copy of the vams, among other books.
