I just thought of this, and realized how much this could help educate newbies and even experienced collectors on what to look for... Sure, if you look up on Google, "coins to look for" you'll see results consisting of coins so rare, that only a few are known to exist. So yeah, look for them. But don't expect to find them. As I have grown as a collector, I have learned about different varieties and errors that I should look for in circulation. Back when I started, I never knew about many of these. Like the 1941 s nickel, large mintmark. These are significantly more rare than 1941 s small mintmark nickels. Below is a thread you could read about them. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/variety-1941-s-large-s-jefferson-nickel-fs-501.213511/ This is one of those coins that nobody knows about that isn't super rare, and you could actually find one. I remember back when I used to think that I could never find error coins. And now, I find them every other roll I search. You just need to know what your looking for. Another example of not impossibly rare coins you could find in circulation is the more commonly known 1998 - 2000 Philadelphia minted wide AM variety. They can be found fairly commonly in coin rolls. I am sure that there are tons of these kinds of coins, and I want you to post them. Any kind of variety or error that isn't super scarce and is something you could find if you look for it. Unlike a 1943 copper penny or 1913 liberty head nickel. I hope this thread grows and helps you all find some interesting stuff
Can't forget 1960D RPM Cents. There are about a billion different ones. A few of them really stand out.
Another coin you can add to this list is full step nickels before 1970. For example, 1964 nickels rarely have any steps on them, and if you find one with full steps, it can be worth a lot. Here's pictures and a pcs price guide... This applies to both P and D minted coins. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1964-5c-fs/84075
I think this is great! Something i never knew about. I have one large, and 7 small, it appears. The constant large is always on the left. I also found 12 Denver mints, not that that matters. Thanks again.
@CoinJockey73 Nice bunch. I hope that isn't a challenge to post as many as we can. I yield. I don't think I have enough to put up a good competition.
Nooooo! I'm a total newb around here, i yield to YOU! it was just nice to be able to be part of something fun!
