I'm not a fan of modern proof sets unless they're silver... even then they're overpriced... I'd only buy pre-1980 proof sets
So same price as last year... 7 coins instead of 10, and no bonus coin... Pass. I know I read somewhere they were supposed to do a 2nd plating of copper on the collector cents or something right? was that my imagination? either way, $32 for technically 4 less coins (three quarters and a bonus coin) ,,,, no thanks, and this is a prelude for what they are going to do with the silver proof set I suppose..... Looks like I'm gonna tighten the belt LOL
Also, starting to think I dreamed up the double plated cent thing, I don't find reference to it anywhere searching the internet, but I'd swear, as ridiculous as it sounds, I thought it was a "thing" I must be losing it!
Yup its only going to get worse i wonder when there going to make something like special silver 1oz coin sets dollar, half, quarter, dime,cent-1oz of copper etc that would be cool but most likely not for us.
AHHHHHHHH HA! I'm not losing my mind! https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...art-in-april from the article: "The remaining coins in the 2021 Silver Proof set are the Lincoln copper-plated zinc cent (with two platings of pure copper rather than the one given to circulating strikes); the Jefferson copper-nickel 5-cent coin; and the Native American manganese brass-clad dollar." Wondering if this is the case of the clad set? The specs haven't changed and they don't mention it on the item on the mint website. Perhaps they did it only to the silver set in order to hopefully charge people the same price as last year for 3 less silver quarters..... Sounds scammy to me..... who knows if it's one layer or two uless it's spec' ed to be?
I have to agree. I do realize that the U.S. Mint takes pride as one of the few government agencies to actually consistently turn a profit, but $32 is a bit out of line...even for people that have no problem affording it. They definitely could have sweetened the pot with a few bonus coins with "W" mint marks on them at the very least.
Wisdom comes with age. Years ago I would have bought them with no thought but now, I'm retired. That makes me older and wiser. Lol
