It is Die Number 2 Check out the cross reference on coppercoins.com/ http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1972&die_id=1972p1do002&die_state=mds Nice coin! I got mine back a few years ago when they were afforable. Who knew they would go up so much?
Copper price guide is very low and not what one should get for a coin like your http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1972&die_id=1972p1do002&die_state=mds Were were they found in change or rolls???
They were found wrapped in tissue in a Altoid container at my late Dad's house over the weekend. I inherited his coin collection and we didn't know these existed. They have tons of luster and are just gorgeous! I love the higher relief strikes of the 60s and earlier!!!!
They were probably removed from a proof set and and sold indivually. Sometimes you find a doubled die in the batch and decide to break down the set an save that one coin. The left overs are either traded or sold. I have some years that I've bought a whole of them to search for doubled dies. I agree that the 60's proof Cents are the nicest looking coins. I don't really like the frosted coins for searching. The etching makes it harder to see doubled dies in.
I just happen to have, ready for this?, a large Crown Royal bottle with wheaties dated 1910-1938 and another one with 1940-1959. Am in the process of doing up an album as well as a Whitman for the grandkids and these are all extras. contact me here or email me; bomber464@hotmail.com
If I was up to the task, I'd go take some pics of my favorite wheats. I think I will later, I'm just in bed because I got all my wisdom teeth out yesterday! Nice coins bob, I love finding near perfect cents
